Sunday News #49

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’ve been feeling under the weather this week with a cold or the flu. Fortunately, I can tell I’m getting better so, hopefully, I’ll be good as new in a day or so.

Blogging

I had a really good blogging week, even though I accidentally closed my comments on my Mini Reviews. I still have a couple of yearend posts scheduled to drop this coming week.

Here’s what I posted this week:

Reading

I’m still in the middle of rereading THE STAR SCROLL by Melanie Rawn, and I made a little bit of progress on the BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES audiobook.

Listening

I honestly haven’t listened to much music this week because I’ve been trying to get all my end of year posts scheduled. I’ve listened to the GAME OF THRONES opening sequence a lot thanks to bingeing it with Corey so I thought I’d share it just in case you haven’t heard it.

Watching

Corey and I finished bingeing GAME OF THRONES on Friday. What a crazy ride! I loved the world building, character development, and political intrigue. My three favorite characters were Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, and Arya Stark. I hated watching all the animal deaths and I think a lot of the nudity wasn’t necessary. As far as the last season goes, I can understand why fans hated it as much as they did. I didn’t like everything that happened, such as View Spoiler », but I thought it was a fitting end to the series.

Loving

I love Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Corey gave it to me for Christmas and I’ve really enjoyed playing it this week.

Wanting

I want to dust and reorganize my bookshelves this week. I just need to muster up the energy.

Needing

I need to figure out how to spend my time. When I’m idle, SAD grips me stronger. As long as I have something to do (and actually do it) or someone to spend time with, then I can usually stave off the seasonal depression.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well. I hope you keep getting better.

I’m binging Game of Thrones. I’m in season 2 and I haven’t looked ahead for spoilers. Some of the violence and death scenes are a bit much for me. I can only take the show in small doses.

Hope you have a great week! Happy New Year!

Thank you, Yvonne! 😀 I totally understand. The violence and deaths are very gory and littered through the show. I hope you enjoy it as you watch it despite the gore.

      Happy New Year!

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling poorly. Hopefully the worst has passed. GoT was such a great series (well, right up until the end, anyway). I rarely watch TV, but that was one show hat I made a point to follow. Happy new year!

Congrats on finishing Game of Thrones! I’m one of the ones who was up in arms over how the series ended. Will you watch the prequel, House of the Dragon? I’m enjoying it but wondering if they’re ever going to release Season 2.

I’m glad you’re on the tail-end of your cold!

    Happy New Year!

Thanks, Jinjer! 😀 I can definitely understand why you didn’t like the ending. I think if I hadn’t been bingeing it so quickly, I might have disliked the ending more. I think having everything so fresh in my mind, though, helped me be okay with most of it.

My husband and I want to start The House of the Dragon series. We did look it up to see that they have 4 seasons planned. Maybe, we’ll wait a bit, lol.

      Happy New Year!

Sorry to hear you’re not doing so well, I hope you feel better soon. Happy new year! I am sorry to hear about your struggles with SAD, I am wondering whether I might have that as well as I always feel worse during the winter months.

Thanks, Lola! 😀 I hope you had a happy new year as well!

I think SAD is a lot more common than people realize. I know some people experience it at different times of the year. I have a friend who gets SAD during the summer because the heat is so oppressive to her that she doesn’t want to leave the house. It’s definitely worth looking into.

I am sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather. I hope that cold/flu bug is gone soon! I have only seen the first season of Game of Thrones. I’ve been watching The Walking Dead. I never saw it to the its conclusion when I watched the show a few years ago. How are you finding BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES? I haven’t decided if I am going to read that one yet. I hope you have a Happy New Year and all that entails: more ups than downs and many good books.

Thank you! 😀 I am feeling a lot better today than I was even yesterday. So that’s a good sign.

I haven’t finished TWD either. I stopped watching once Negan came into the picture. He killed my favorite character and the way he did it just made me rage quit. Maybe I’ll have to try again someday.

I like BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES so far. I did see the movie in November so I know what to expect. I think it’s a very interesting look at the history of Panem and how President Snow became as ruthless and evil as was in the original trilogy.

I have to admit I’ve never watched GoT. My boys did and I caught bits and pieces, but that’s it. I may watch it some day.

Thank you! 😀 Yeah, my husband and I didn’t watch it while it was on TV. I’m kind of glad we didn’t. I thought bingeing it was super fun. 😀 Happy New Year!

My daughter loved Game of Thrones, but I knew I couldn’t watch it after some of it was described to me. Animal death (I’m sure it wasn’t real) wasn’t even mentioned so that’s a hard pass! That kind of stuff sticks in my head on replay. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Yes, staying busy helps if you’re sad or depressed. I hope you feel better! Happy New Year!

I totally get it. It took this long for me to be willing to watch it. The animal deaths were the worst part for me. I hated it way more than the people deaths. And, if it stuck in my head on replay, there’s no way I’d be able to watch all of that either.

Thank you so much, Rachel! 😀 Happy New Year!

I’ve been wanting to dust and organized my bookshelves too. Usually twice a year I go through them and weed out the ones I don’t want to keep. I have to make room for more! I hope you’re feeling better very soon. Happy New Year!

I would have liked the end of Game of Thrones better if the last episode had been the battle w/the Night King. I hope you feel better. The music of Game of Thrones was so good!

Hmmm. That would’ve been an interesting way to end it, instead of dealing with him first. It may have changed what happened to Ser Jorah and Missandei and maybe Daenerys wouldn’t have given in to her madness. Definitely something to think about.

I hope you’ve continued to feel better this week.

We watch GoT as it was released and I was unhappy with the whole last season or two. I love those books and wish GRRM would go ahead and finish the series. It feels like he lost interest after the TV show kind of bombed at the end. I also wish a lot of the violence and nudity had been left out. It feels like that kind of thing turns away more people than it attracts, but maybe that’s just my circle of people.

    Happy New Year!

Thank you, Jen! 😀 I have.

I totally get why you’d be unhappy with the last two seasons. It would be nice if GRRM finished the series, but it’s hard to tell if he’s going to now. And, most of the people I hand around are also turned off by the nudity and violence. So, yeah, I think they’d have had more viewers if they would’ve toned both down a little bit. Oh well.

      Happy New Year!
