Sunday News #43

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’m feeling much better. Someone recommended I take turmeric to help with the inflammation in my arm. I bought some pills on Monday and my pain lessened about 80% of what it was by Tuesday evening. Honestly, I don’t know if turmeric’s the cause or if it’s just coincidence. I’ll take it, though!

Because I’m feeling a lot better, I’m going to start my NaNo month on Tuesday. By starting on Tuesday, I’ll be two weeks behind the original commencement and go two weeks into December, ending on the 14th. I think that’s doable!

Blogging

This week on the blog:

Reading

I started reading my book club’s pick for November this week. It’s THE MAID by Nita Prose. I’m still not really sure what I think about it as I’m not very far into it yet. I’m also still listening to the ECLIPSE audiobook. I’m about a third of the way in.

Listening

This week, I listened to an interesting cover of “We are Young” by Fun. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it on YouTube so I’m sharing the original instead. The cover I’m talking about is part of the soundtrack for the Netflix movie LOOK BOTH WAYS.

Watching

As I mentioned above, I watched LOOK BOTH WAYS, a Netflix movie starring Lili Reinhart, Danny Ramirez, David Corenswet, and Luke Wilson. I really enjoyed the idea of looking at how one decision could impact your life. I also loved the message of life being what you make of it (i.e., happy, fulfilling) even if it doesn’t turn out how planned it to.

Corey and I binged CELEBRITY JEOPARDY and got caught up this week. It was a lot of fun. Some of the actors / comedians are so quick-witted. They play off each other so well. I loved Wil Wheaton’s wager for Final Jeopardy. It was $1701, which references the number on the Enterprise’s hull on Star Trek.

We also saw BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER on Thursday. We were very pleased with it. I thought it honored Chadwick Boseman’s memory nicely while still moving forward into a new era. I got teary a few times. I’m excited to see what happens now.

Loving

I love watching Luci play, discovering the world around her, and interacting with Izzy. (For those who didn’t see the change I made to last week’s post, Corey and I decided that “Luci” fit our new kitten better. Her new official name is Luci McGonagall.) Luci’s fearless whereas Izzy’s a scaredy cat. Luci’s also a jumper whereas Izzy has a mental block and thinks she can’t jump. She can; she just chooses not to jump any higher than the couch or bed. Luci’s already getting on top of things Izzy “couldn’t” at 4 months old.

Wanting

Both Izzy and Luci are sick. Luci has a cold and Izzy has been vomiting and acting lethargic. Izzy seems to be doing a bit better today. We think she may be constipated, but we’re not positive. And, poor Luci can hardly breathe because she’s so stuffed up. They have an appointment scheduled with our vet Monday morning, but I want them to feel better now. I always feel so helpless when my furbabies are sick.

Needing

Even though the turmeric pills have been helping with the pain in my arm, it’s still tingling like it’s asleep whenever I do menial tasks. I need to talk to my primary care physician and figure out what’s causing the problem. Hopefully, it can be fixed without surgery. Corey thinks I’ll probably get a cortisone shot.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

We went to see Wakanda Forever today. They did a really good job at honouring Chadwick Boseman. It was a long movie though

Hope your arm feels better soon.

Thanks, Marg! 😀 It’s definitely feeling a lot better than it did. Hopefully, it’ll be completely healed soon.

Wakanda Forever was long. I didn’t mind it, though. It had a lot of ground to cover because of Boseman’s death. I guess there are some things that could’ve been taken out, but I’m glad to have received all the info we did. 😀

I take tumeric for years now and it sure helps with inflammation! I hope it will still help you next week and the weeks after!

I hope the tumeric keeps helping you. I sometimes add tumeric and black pepper to my baked beans to feel more healthy 🤣

I hope your cats get well soon too.

I enjoyed reading The Maid. I loved the main character which I think helped!

Have a great week next week 😊

Turmeric in baked beans sound good. I like to put it in rice and soups. I just never realized it helped with inflammation. 😀

Thank you so much! I really hope they get better soon too. 🙁

And, I’m glad to hear that about THE MAID. My friend really liked it until the ending. Hopefully, I won’t be the same way.

Thanks, Jodie! Yeah, I’m pretty worried about my cats. I really hope the vet can help tomorrow. I’m looking forward to finishing THE MAID. I hope I love it too. 😀

Omg, I hope you and the babies are OK. It sounds like you’re in the wars! 🙁 I’ve never heard of turmeric helping with inflamation but I think I need to check that out. I hope the tingling resolves itself soon. Have a great week xxx

Thanks, Amy! I’m doing better now that most of the pain is gone. I’m worried about my kitties. I really hope the vet can help tomorrow. I hope turmeric is helpful for you as well. 😀

      Jenni Elyse says:

Thanks, AJ! Exactly. I wish my kitties could tell me what’s wrong. It’s fairly obvious Luci has a cold or upper respiratory infection, but Izzy is a mystery. I really hope the vet can help them tomorrow.

I’ve heard about tumeric. I should start taking that! I hope your kitties get better soon. I also hate when my furries are sick. It’s like, why can’t you talk and tell me exactly what’s wrong?

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

I hope turmeric is as helpful for you as it is for me. 😀 Thanks so much! I wish my kitties could tell me what’s going on. Hopefully, the vet will be able to help tomorrow.

I shall look for Look Both Ways. It’s great to have recommendations for good shows and movies. That’s one of the tricky things about streaming.

Our book club liked The Maid a lot a couple of months back. It’s a bit quirky and you have to let some details go, but I liked it.

Happy to hear that the inflammation in your arm is doing better. I hope you get the tingling figured out soon because I know how annoying that sensation is! I hope your furbabies are feeling better soon too! I hate when mine are feeling unwell 😢

I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better. I watched Wil Wheaton on Jeopardy. He was really good and seemed like he was having so much fun. I hope Izzy and Luci are feeling better and the vet helps them out. It’s always difficult when the furbabies are sick because they can’t tell us what’s wrong. Many virtual hugs and purrs to you guys.

    Have a great week!

Thanks, Yvonne! 😀 Yes, Wil Wheaton did a great job on Jeopardy. I hope he wins the semifinal and goes one to the final three. 😀 Thank you. I hope my kitties feel better soon too and I hope the vet can help tomorrow.

I’m glad the Tumeric seems to be working. I have the powder form for making tea, I just need to stop procrastinating and try it already.

Thanks, Alicia! I hope you like the powder for the tea. It absorbs better into your system with some pepper. Hopefully, your powder has some mixed in so you can reap the benefits. 😀

Ooh you’re reading The Maid. I’m looking forward to trying it, will have to watch for your thoughts. I’ve heard good things about turmeric too, although I always wonder- is it REALLY helping or is it something else? It can’t hurt though, right?

I want to see Wakanda Forever.

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

Hopefully, I’ll have THE MAID finished before Wednesday. I hope I like it. 😀

Yes, I’m the same way. I think homeopathic remedies are great, but do they cause a placebo effect or are they really doing the good I’m told they do? I’m glad I’m not the only one who wonders. 😀

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

I hope the turmeric helps you. 😀 The pill I have has pepper mixed in so my body absorbs it better. I didn’t know about that was the case until I researched the ingredients of my pills.

I am sorry you are having pain in your arm but am glad someone told you about turmeric. I have had issues with tingling neuropathy and inflammation due to my paralysis on my right side and turmeric helps me when I have a flare up. Hope your doctor can figure it out.

    Have a great week!

Sounds like Luci might have an upper respiratory infection. I hope they both get the care they need and start feeling better Monday.

I haven’t been doing much except trying to get out more with the dogs. There’s a lot going on (not me – family) and the fresh air and dog shenanigans help get me out of my head lol

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

Yes, I think Luci has an upper respiratory infection or a really bad cold. If it’s just a cold, there’s nothing the vet can do. If it’s an infection, then she can at least get some antibiotics to help her recover more quickly. I hope the vet can help both of them tomorrow too. 🙂

I’m glad you’re getting out with the dogs at least. I’m sorry there are family issues right now. They’re always so hard to deal with. I hope things get sorted out quickly.

Glad your arm is feeling a little better! But I hope the furbabies get better or that the vet has something to help when you go. I want to see Look Both Ways. I’ve heard good things about it. I also need to see the new Wakanda movie. Where are you binging Celebrity Jeopardy? I would have a blast with the Wil Wheaton one. I have yet to do any of my NaNoWriMo plan this month either. But that’s a good idea to extend to December. Since my goal was to edit my YA novel I wrote a few years ago during NaNo so I can finally self publish it, I figure I’ll be going into December too! Have a great week!

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

Thanks, Lisa! 😀 I hope they feel better soon too. I hope the vet can help them tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy LOOK BOTH WAYS when you watch it. I watch CELEBRITY JEOPARDY on Hulu. 😀 I hope that helps. Tonight’s the 8th episode.

Good luck with your NaNoWriMo goals. Let’s hope we both benefit from our personal extensions. 😀

I am really looking forward to watching Wakanda Forever, but I’m waiting until it’s on Disney+. That will give me time to stock up on tissues. Lol. The lead actress is from my family’s home country of Guyana. She’s a great actress and I have high hopes for the movie based on all the reviews I’ve read. I’m glad the turmeric helped your arm. I have heard that is good to take for pain. I hope it feels completely better soon and you don’t need a cortisone shot. It’s so fun to see the different personalities our fur babies have. My two kittens are sisters, but they are so very different. I hope you have a wonderful week! 🙂

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

I hope you enjoy Wakanda Forever when it comes on Disney+. Tissues are definitely needed. That’s cool that Letitia Wright is Guyanese. I knew she was born in Africa, but I didn’t know which country. I really like her too and think she’s a fantastic actress especially in Wakanda Forever.

I hope I don’t need a cortisone shot, but if I do then so be it. I’m glad I at least found the turmeric for until I see my doctor on Wednesday. 😀

My husband and I’ve had 8 cats in the 25 years we’ve been together and each and everyone of them have had different personalities. It’s fun to see them grow as I get older.

I love my fur baby and I know what you mean about feeling so bad and helpless when they’re sick! I hope your kitties get back to 100% quickly. I never knew Turmeric would help with inflammation. Thanks for the tip! I get a bit of swelling around my knee caps from an old injury after hiking or running sometimes, so I will try that. Have a lovely week, Jenni!

      Jenni Elyse says:

Yeah, it’s so hard because they can’t tell you what’s wrong. 🙁 I hope my kitties get better soon and that the vet can help them tomorrow. If you ever use turmeric, I hope it works for you. 😀

I do. It’s crazy. Hopefully, things will slow down a bit before Thanksgiving. I can only imagine how reading so many in-verse novels would start to run together. I hope you enjoy some of them at least. 😀

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

Thanks, Erin! 😀 Fortunately, they’re starting to feel better. We found out Izzy isn’t constipated. She has beginning stages of pancreatitis. The vet gave her some shots to help and she’s being put on a new diet. 😀

So happy you are better–whatever works! I too hate when my pets are sick. They can’t talk and tell us what’s wrong so it costs a lot to find out, then to treat. I love Jeopardy but have never watched the celebrity version. I’m a Trekker!

    Susan says:

I recently got a cortisone shot to my shoulder. They usually work well in taking away the pain for about three months, though they don’t solve why it happened. Still if you’re in much pain it definitely can help give you a break from the problem. The Maid novel was pretty entertaining and my book club had a good discussion about it. Hope yours does too.

    • Jenni Elyse
      Jenni Elyse says:

Thanks, Susan! 😀 I’m thinking I might get a cortisone in my should / arm as well. I might have to do an MRI to see if I have any torn ligaments or tendons. Hopefully, it’s nothing to serious that’s causing the issues.
