Top Ten Tuesday #30

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Books Linked to Specific Memories or Moments in My Life

This week’s actual prompt is “Hilarious Book Titles,” which didn’t really interest me. I don’t really read comedic books. I’m not opposed to them or anything; I just choose to read other things.

I’ve decided to do an old prompt I didn’t have the chance to participate in. It’s “Top Ten Books Linked to Specific Memories or Moments in My Life.” Each of these books have special meaning to me. My top ten includes:

Books My Dad Read to Me as a Child

Books My Parents Gave Me as a Child

The First Book I Remember Reading on My Own

Books I Read in High School

The First Book I Read While Living Away from Home

The TWO Books that Ignited My Love of Reading

What about you? Which books are linked to specific memories or moments in your life? Do we have any in common?

P.S. I’ll finally be responding to all the comments on my previous posts and this post today. I’ll also start commenting on other blogs again today.

I learned in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that life is full of dialectics, or two opposing truths. In this case, the two opposing truths are: 1) I don’t agree with JKR’s stance regarding trans people, and 2) I still love Harry Potter.

Oh, wow! I’ve never read Homer’s Odyssey. I remember talking about it in high school, but I didn’t actually read it. (I did everything I could to not read the books I was supposed to.)

I adored The Secret Garden as a child, I also remember reading Alice in Wonderland and The Famous Five. I can remember my dad reading Roald Dahl and Doctor Seuss books to me.

I actually didn’t read The Secret Garden until a few years ago. I’ve never read The Famous Five. I’ll have to check it out. I’ve also never read Roald Dahl. I know I need to.

Fun change of topic! Sometimes I think I would struggle to come up with a list for a prompt like this but as I was scrolling through your list, I thought I could definitely come up with some titles too. I remember reading Number the Stars when I was in middle school and of course, discovering HP and Twilight, both at very different times in my life 😂 Great list!

How fun that your dad would do all the voices. I can’t remember if my dad did that or not. I just remember being read to. I love those memories, though. 😀

I remember being obsessed with Nancy Drew and Anne of Green Gables. I read the original Little Mermaid where she dies and turns into sea foam. It was beautiful but disturbing since I hadn’t yet encountered death. There wasn’t really YA lit in my era; we read classics like Little Women and Little House on the Prairie.

I’ve never read Nancy Drew and I only read Anne of Green Gables a couple of years ago. I loved Anne and I love the movies with Megan Follows. I think it would be fun to read the original fairy tales whether they be Grimms’ or Hans Christian Anderson’s. 😀

The original fairy tales are dark and frightening. They were mostly cautionary tales for kids and not entertaining at all. I loved the Anne series with Megan Follows too!!

This is a nice topic. In fact it would make a good official topic! That Secret garden is so compelling… and I love the Dune cover also.

Thanks, Greg! 😀 It would be fun to do it again with everyone since it was done four years ago. I love this Dune cover too, and The Secret Garden is very compelling.

Thanks, Rae! 😀 I think Harry Potter and Twilight got a lot of people reading. Say what you will about them now, but they’ve both made a huge impact on reading.
