Top Ten Tuesday #19

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Favorite Quotes from Harry Potter

Today’s prompt is “Book Quote Freebie” and I’ve decided to share my top 10 favorite quotes from Harry Potter. As many of my readers know, I struggle with mental illness–Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, anxiety, among other things. Harry Potter has been a huge comfort to me for the last 21 years. Because of Harry Potter, I learned to love reading. Many of the quotes I’m sharing have inspired me in some way or another. Here are my top ten favorite quotes from the series:

What about you? Which quotes made your list this week? Do we have any in common?

I learned in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that life is full of dialectics or two opposing truths. In this case, the two opposing truths are: 1) I don’t agree with JKR’s stance regarding trans people, and 2) I still love Harry Potter.

The greatest truths do seem to be two opposing truths. That’s also the wisdom of the Tao, (of which I know just enough to be dangerous.)

I, too, love Harry Potter, though I’m disappointed with its author’s stance on trans issues.

That’s very interesting about the Tao. I know nothing about it. I’m always very curious about other spiritual views. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll have to do some research into the Tao. 🙂

Ugh. These are some quotes that will stay with me forever! I adore the story itself, and probably always will, but these days I feel terrible calling myself a Harry Potter fan after everything Rowling has said about trans people. She is an awful human.

I don’t like her views regarding trans people either and I still love Harry Potter as my note above says. Her being an awful human won’t take away from my enjoyment or love of the series.

These are excellent and thought-provoking quotes. I love so many quotes that it’s impossible to choose. The true magic of HP got me through some tough times also. Reading in general has been a godsend.

Thanks, Margaret! I agree that reading in general is a godsend. I finally started reading again last night and it was so soothing. I missed it and I’m glad to be at it again.

I think Harry Potter has been a source of comfort to so many people over the years. I’ve never read the series beyond book one but it’s neat that it means so much to so many!

I completely agree. There are so many things that Rowling has said since Deathly Hallows was published in 2007 that I don’t agree with, some regarding the series and a lot regarding her stance on trans people. Corey often says to me that he thinks she’s just trying to stay relevant without having to write another Harry Potter book. After all, bad publicity is still publicity.
