Sunday News #8

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’m feeling a lot better emotionally than I have in a long time (other than being worried and sad about what’s happening in Ukraine). It’s really interesting because last weekend I was in a pretty low place from losing my friend. Because of a few comments from my readers and the tools I’ve learned in therapy, I started to look at what happened differently.

Even though how my friend handled the situation is what upset me the most, I realized her feelings mattered just as much as mine did. I also realized even though I’m still sad, this is for the best and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me because I’m no longer wondering what’s going on.

Blogging

This week on the blog:

Reading

I finished reading THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER by CS Lewis on Monday. I started reading THE SOUND OF STARS by Alechia Dow again. I’ve been sick with the stomach flu or really bad food poisoning so I haven’t made much progress. (I can’t read when I’m sick. My brain doesn’t let me.) Now that I’m starting to feel better, I’m hoping I can finish THE SOUND OF STARS sometime this week.

Listening

This week because I have been sick, I haven’t been listening to anything really. So, here’s one of my favorites songs, “Cristofori’s Dream” by David Lanz. I’d love to learn how to play this on the piano.

Watching

Corey and I watched the first episode of the new season of Star Trek: Picard! Holy ! It was amazing!!! I’ve never been this excited for a new season of Star Trek before!!!

Loving

I loved the season finale of The Amazing Race. It couldn’t have ended any better than it did, IMHO.

Wanting

I want my friend and her family in Ukraine and all her country people to be safe and not to have to worry about their freedom being taken away by Putin’s need for power and control. I hope the Ukrainian military and people can continue to defend themselves and that the rest of the world steps up and helps them. Also, you, Putin. #IStandWithUkraine

Needing

I need my body to recover a little faster from this flu or food poisoning that I’ve had this week. I’m no longer in the bathroom every five minutes, but I can still only eat rice and drink water. If I eat anything else, my intestines cramp up horribly. I just feel like my digestive system is sore and needs a break.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

I hope you are feeling better soon, having insides that feel bruised and battered is so draining. I haven’t heard of The Sound of Stars so will have to investigate that one. Fingers crossed for a better week for you!

I’m glad you’re feeling better. It can be hard to sort through feelings on something like that, I’m sure. and sometimes our views change or evolve as we work through it I suppose.

I haven’t listened to a lot David Lanz but I do remember some of his earlier music with Narada (yes I just aged myself ha ha).

I hope you feel better too food poison wise!

Yeah, I think as you work through hard things, your perception definitely can/does change. It’s an interesting dialectic that’s for sure.

I’ll have to check out Narada. I haven’t really listened to much of David Lanz. I’m very naïve when it comes to music. Most of the music I love is because other people has recommended it to me, I’ve stumbled across it, or my husband has tried to educate me, lol.

Narada was an older (one of the original) New age labels, and by New age I don’t mean woo woo stuff lol, it was just that back in the early 90’s I think ambient/ instrumental type music was often called New age. He was sorta in that timeframe I think. The Narada Mystique sampler album is on Youtube I think and has nice music…

That’s good to know. The only New Age music I’m really very familiar with is Robert Miles’ Dreamland, which I love. I hope to get a chance to listen to Narada this week. Im just trying to get caught up on homework first.

Yay for better mental health, boo for intestential issues! I hope you are on the mend soon and back to being able to read. It’s rare that I am so ill I can’t read (thankfully!). I hope you have a great week!

Thank you! I wish I could read when I’m sick. It’s not that I’m too sick; it’s just that my brain doesn’t like to concentrate on reading when I’m sick. Instead, I usually watch TV or movies. This week, however, I was too sick to do much of anything. Blech.

I loved the finale of Amazing Race too. It was great to see a married couple that could work so well together and be consistently successful in that game. They are the oldest pair to win and I cheered for them the whole way 😁

Yes, completely agree! I loved that Penn and Kim never put each other down, that they were always supportive of each other. It’s very rare to see something like that in these type of competition shows.

I too am very worried and sad about the situation in Ukraine. My daughter has had numerous gastro issues and we are gluten free. When it’s bad, she reverts to the brat diet bananas rice apples toast. Of course, not wheat toast. I hope you’re feeling better.

I’m gluten-free as well. I cannot eat it without a lot of pain and unwanted consequences. I’ve been gluten-free since October-ish 2020. I’m on the what I call the “bra” diet because I’m not eating toast right now. 😂 Gluten-free bread seems to make me feel sick right now too.

I haven’t tried any bananas or applesauce yet because we don’t have any. But, the rice seems to be settling nicely in my gut. I’m just getting sick of eating it. I’m going to have my husband go buy some bananas and applesauce tomorrow.

I’m so happy to hear that Jenni.

I LOVE Picard (the character) but wasn’t to thrilled with S1. I had Paramount for .99 for a few months but it expired. I hear S2 is really good so I might wait until it’s all out and the subscribe for a month.

I understand. The first season took me a little bit to get into, but I ended up liking it. I think waiting until the whole season is out and then bingeing it is a great idea. 😁
