Sunday News #32

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’m feeling excited and a bit overwhelmed because school starts tomorrow. I feel excited because it’s a new school year with lots of possibilities, and I feel overwhelmed because I don’t quite feel ready for the first day.

Blogging

This week on the blog:

Reading

Despite signing up and participating in Bout of Books this week, I haven’t read much. I started LINES OF COURAGE by Jennifer A Nielsen, but I only got to page 160. I did do a lot of researching WWI, though, because of Nielsen’s book.

I don’t know if I’ll get much reading done this week either because of school. I’m going to try, though.

Listening

I’ve been listening to my Faves playlist while running errands and being in the car. The song that stuck out to me the most this week is “Handclap” by Fitz and the Tantrums. I like to clap my hands against the steering wheel while I sing along to this song.

Watching

Corey and I watched various movies this week. Most of them were unmemorable. We got a new TV and it’s big enough for Corey to read subtitles (finally), so we watched EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. It was amazing!

We also watched the first episode of SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW. First off, it was really funny. Second, I love that View Spoiler » using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My therapist and I had a good laugh about it. I told him, “I’m a hulk. Okay.” His response to me was, “I thought I might say that it is empirically supported for BPD [Borderline Personality Disorder] and gamma radiation poisoning. ” I laughed a lot.

Loving

I went to PetSmart this week to get Izzy some litter. I decided to stop by the cats for adoption. There was a 3-month old female named Binks and I immediately fell in love with her. I tried to convince Corey that we should adopt her, but he’s not ready yet. I don’t blame him one bit. I miss Dax so much, and I know Izzy needs a friend. We can wait, though.

Wanting

I want to dye my hair purple again. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to. Hopefully, soon.

Needing

I started PTSD therapy last Monday. It’s called PE, which stands for Prolonged Exposure. It works in conjunction with what I learned in DBT. I had a hard time doing my homework this week. I’m anxious about feeling the emotions even though I know it’ll help me in the long run. I know it’s going to get harder before it gets easier. Thankfully, I have the best therapist and I have the skills I learned in DBT to help me. I just need to remember that it’s about progress not perfection.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

Everything Everywhere At Once is also still on my list, I’ve literally only heard good things about it and I adore Michelle Yeoh! I’d also fully support getting purple hair again, but then I’m too scared to dye my hair so maybe don’t take my advice xD I hope you have a lovely week coming up and that you do as much reading as you feel like!

I hope you enjoy EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE when you finally watch it. 😀 I love dying my hair purple. It’s just so damned expensive that I can’t do it as often as I like. 🙁 Thank you, Juli! I hope you have a lovely week too!

All of the hugs for the first week of school! It’s always a lot happening all at once and people settling back into routines; some willingly, some not so much. lol.

I think WWI books are becoming more popular, or I’m just starting to see them more. This one sounds like a good read. I’ve read Nielsen’s fantasy series and really enjoyed them. I’m going to add this one to my “once school is over” list!

LOL. Yes, exactly! Hopefully, I’ll be one of the ones who’re willingly getting into a routine. 😀 Sometimes I make it hard on myself.

I agree. I think there’s an uptick in WWI books. I’m glad for that because usually it’s all about WWII and I’ve really liked learning about the events that lead to WWII.

      Have a great week! 😀

” I feel excited because it’s a new school year with lots of possibilities, and I feel overwhelmed because I don’t quite feel ready for the first day” I’m a teacher of too many years to mention, lol, and I STILL feel like this every September when we are due to return to work.

I hope the PE therapy is as successful as the DBT has been. Have a great week!

I’m glad I’m not the only one, lol. 😀 Do school always start the first weekday in September over there? I’ve always wondered because of Harry Potter and Hogwart’s always starting on September 1.

      Have a great week!

She Hulk was fun! I smiled when I heard them talk about DBT too. Good luck with school this week.

Petsmart and those pet stores are dangerous because the cats are always so adorable. I’ve met several I wanted to take home too. 🙂

Thanks, Greg! 😀 PetSmart IS dangerous, lol. Most of the time, Corey goes there because he doesn’t want me bringing home another cat. Ha!

      Have a great week! 😀

My daughter started this last week and so far it’s going well. We slow down other activities a bit so she can get settled into classes. She loves the math and I knew she would. We waited about 9 months after Gina passed before we got Lulu. I just wasn’t ready, although my daughter wanted to right away. We also moved so we got Lulu the day after we moved to the new house.

I’m so glad your daughter had a good first week! 😀 I’m glad she’s enjoying her math class. I also love math. I need to slow down my other activities too. It’s so hard for me to do sometimes.

I can understand waiting 9 months until you got another dog. I don’t know if we’ll wait that long, but probably at least a month or two. If we didn’t have Izzy, we might’ve wait longer. We both just know that Izzy has never been alone and it’s better for her mental health to have another cat around.

We just recently adopted a new cat. Our previous cat had passed away over two years before, but my son kept saying he wasn’t ready. It was the first time in my life I hadn’t had at least one cat or dog in my home. It was hard. 🐈

I hope once you are back at school things will all fall into place. 🤗

Therapy is hard work. A lot of people don’t understand. You have the right attitude. 💪

    Have a wonderful week. 🌞

I’m glad you adopted a new cat. I’m sorry about your previous one. It’s always hard to lose a beloved pet. I miss my Izzy so much.

Thanks for the well wishes. I think school will go well. It’s just first of the year jitters.

Therapy is hard. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, and it’s also the hardest.

A new school year is exciting, but also nerve-wracking. There are many wonderful possibilities as well as challenges. I taught for 37 years and even in my later years I was always anxious and nervous for the first days of school. There is no way to ever feel completely prepared as a teacher or a student. Go get ’em!!
You are extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful therapist. I wish my younger daughter could find one.

Agreed. No matter how much you prepare for the first day/week of school, it’s always anxiety-inducing. I’m sure it’ll all go well.

      I wish your daughter could find one as well. {{{hugs}}}

Best of luck to you in the new school year! PTSD therapy sounds interesting. My husband suffered from PTSD, and he goes to therapy, but I’m not sure it’s PTSD specific therapy.

Thanks, Wendy! 😀 I’ve participated in therapy for a very long time and this is the first time I’ve ever had PTSD-specific therapy. It’s scary. I hope your husband’s doing okay. <3

I hope the start of school goes very smoothly for you. It’s wonderful that you have a good support system in place. It’s getting through the tough parts that’s especially difficult. I keep reminding myself to keep moving forward and, occasionally, stop and breathe.
