Sunday News #26

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’m feeling exhausted and excited. We moved into our new place yesterday! Everything that goes along with moving into a new place is so exhausting. Corey and I are the type of people that like to leave the places we move out of better than it was when we moved in. Of course after all the hard work of moving everything and getting our cats situated, we then commenced Operation Clean and cleaned our old place from top to bottom. I’m glad we can finally relax a little bit.

Blogging

This week on the blog:

Reading

I finished rereading both THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW and THE LAST BATTLE by CS Lewis this week. I can’t believe I’m done with the Narniathon. I’ll be posting my discussion posts for both books this week.

I’ve also started reading WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING by Delia Owens during my downtime this week. Now that we’re done moving (other than unpacking), I should have much more time to devote to reading. Hopefully, I can finish WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING soon so Corey and I can see the movie.

Listening

I’m love the movie MOULIN ROUGE with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. It’s the first time I heard Ewan sing and I immediately fell in love with his voice.

I’m not very knowledgeable regarding music unless it’s a movie score. I recognize a lot of songs, but I often have no idea what the name of the song is or who the artist is. And, sometimes, I don’t recognize the song at all. For our entire marriage, Corey’s mission has been to educate me in terms of music.

When I first watched MOULIN ROUGE back in 2001, I thought most of the songs were original to the movie. Now, that I’ve been more educated, I’d realized that most of them are covers to famous songs by The Beatles, Elton John, Queen, David Bowie, etc.

With all that being said, Corey blew my mind this week by sharing the original version of one of my favorite songs from MOULIN ROUGE. I had no idea that Sting sang “Roxanne” nor that it was the original for “El Tango de Roxanne” from the movie. Now, after hearing Sting’s version, I have to say that I like the movie version better. I often like covers better than the originals. Please don’t hate me.

Anyway, I’ve decided to share both versions of the song to let you decide.

Watching

Corey and I finally watched started watching ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING on Hulu with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. We love it so far. It’s so funny and really keeps you guessing. Plus it has an all-start cast. Nathan Lane and Sting (hence the song choices) are guest stars in a couple of episodes. I hope Chevy Chase is a guest star too so the Three Amigos can get back together for an episode or two.

We also saw LIGHTYEAR in the theater. We both really enjoyed it. I thought Chris Evans did a great job of voicing Buzz and I loved his cat robot companion, Spot. (Spot was my favorite.) It was a really fun movie.

We had tickets for THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER on Friday, but we completely spaced and missed it. We have tickets for tomorrow now. I’m tempted to look online and see if Hiddles has a cameo.

Loving

I love our new home and I especially love the room for my library. I can’t wait to share pictures once I have it all put together.

Wanting

I want my kitties to feel more comfortable with our new home. One of my cats, Dax, has moved before but it’s been 13 years. I don’t know if she remembers. Plus, she’s almost 19 and is grumpy so change is hard for her. Our other cat, Izzy, has never moved and she’s very skittish. She’s only five years old.

Needing

I need to get LASIK done more than anything. I’m having trouble with my glasses. I have progressive lenses and my up-close vision is wonky. I sometimes can use my glasses, but other times, I can seem without them if I put the thing I’m looking at really close. The problem is I can’t take my glasses off to see up close and still see far away. Writing and taking notes in class has been difficult. I have a consultation on Monday with an eye surgeon.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

P.S. I may be slow to reply for a few days since I’ll be unpacking and moving things around.

Congrats on moving in! Looking forward toyour thoughts on the Narnia books. I’m tempted to reread those at some point.

I really like some of Sting’s stuff (and the Police) and then some of their stuff less so. they’re hit or miss for me I guess, but that’s ana wesome song!

    Good luck with LASIK!

That’s wonderful that you’re moving in and making your new home. Cats take some time to adapt; Ziggy is still on East Coast time which isn’t fun at 3:30 in the morning. I’ve never liked Sting’s version of Roxanne. I don’t know the other one, I’m ashamed to admit. I’m like you in that I don’t know song lyrics or titles well. I usually recognize melodies though.

Thanks, Margaret! 😀 I do know that about cats. They don’t like change. Izzy’s starting to do better. Surprisingly, it’s Dax, who’s move before, that’s having a hard time. I thin, it’s because she’s so old.

I’m so glad you’re happy in your new home, and I hope the cats adapt soon. I like both versions of Roxanne, but I’m much more familiar with The Police version as I grew up with that. Have a great week, Jenni!

Thank you, Wendy! 😀 I’m pretty sure some of my siblings grew up with the Police too. I honestly didn’t know Sting was ever part of a group. I always thought he sang alone. That tells you how much I know about music. Ha!

Thanks, Cindy! 😀 Corey and I took the weekend off and we didn’t unpack anything except the essentials. We’ve been so tired that we mostly napped on Sunday. I look forward to getting everything set up this week.

Glad you have the move behind you! Now comes all the unpacking and settling in. Luckily you can take all the time you want for that. 🙂 I remember seeing Moulin Rouge at the theater and loving it. So many great songs. I knew the songs from the movie were all covers, but there have been other times that I didn’t know a song was a remake. You don’t know until you know, right? 🙂

I’m so glad your move went well! Your new home sounds lovely. I have similar issues with my vision and wear one contact lens that is bifocal, and 1 that is for distance only. It’s worked well for several now! Have a wonderful week!

Thanks, Jodie! 😀 I’ve thought of doing that with my glasses, but I’d really like to not wear glasses (or contacts) anymore. I’m glad it’s working for you, though.

Congratulations on the move. I hope the unpacking goes well for you and I hope the cats have settled in well.
It is frustrating to have vision issues. I have mono lenses – one for computer work and one for distance. The doc says I can get LASEK when I have to get cataract surgery.. but I don’t need it yet. Then I won’t be able to do the close up work and reading I am used to. I hope you get your eyes sorted.
Have a good week and Happy Reading!

Thanks, Martha! 😀 I’ve thought about doing mono lenses. I’ve decided that I’d rather be able to see far away and use reading glasses. That’s what my mom did when she had cataract surgery and it worked really well for her. I’m glad you’ll get to get LASIK when you have cataract surgery. I hope you don’t have to wait too long.

Glad the move is finally over for you. That is a draining event lol

I’ve only ever heard the Police version of Roxanne. I like a lot of covers – especially if they bring something new to the song (but still honor the original).

We love Murders in the Building. We started S2 but it’s so annoying waiting for new episodes lol First world problems. We thought Buzz was cute too and omg Spot!

Congrats on moving into your new home! We moved with three cats and it didn’t take them long to get used to the new house. None of them ever moved before either.

Moving is exhausting though…cleaning up, unpacking and putting everything where you want it. But, it’s so worth it and then you can enjoy your home.

Thanks, Yvonne! 😀 We’re really excited to be in our new place finally. I’m glad your cats acclimated quickly. Izzy’s doing really well for her first time moving. Dax, on the other hand, is still over-stimulated by the new environment. Even though this is her fourth time moving, I think it’s harder for her because she’s so old. She has a little bit of dementia.

I hope you are settling in nicely to your new home. It must be so nice to have the move behind you! I hope the cats are adjusting to the new place. My daughter agrees with you when it comes to covers of songs. 🙂 I grew up listening to Sting and so am familiar with most of his work. I agree the Moulin Rouge version is a better one of Roxanne. Haha. I love the music from Moulin Rouge. How did the appointment with the surgeon go?

I hope you have a great weekend and week ahead!
