Still Here

Hi there! I thought I’d check in since I’ve been “gone” for a little over a month now.

My arm’s doing much better. My doctor gave me a cortisone shot a couple of days after I decided to take a blogging hiatus. It took a little over a week for it to really do anything. There’s still some pain and tingling below my elbow, but it’s much more manageable and it’s not affecting my sleep anymore. My doctor’s still concerned that all the pain and tingling aren’t gone. I may need surgery if my arm doesn’t completely heal on its own.

For now, we’re focusing on more pressing matters–my hives. We still don’t know what’s causing them. It’s not what I thought it was a month ago–turmeric, ibuprofen, Luci (new kitten). We’ve ruled out fleas, mites, and bed bugs as my doctor thought my hives looked like bites. I started a round of steroids in the beginning of December. My hives began to heal, but they came back immediately and almost worse than before once I was done with the steroids. I started another round a couple of days ago. This time they’re much stronger and I’ll take them for twice as long. We think it’ll help. I hope it’ll help. I don’t want to be on steroids forever.

I haven’t really been reading, although I did start IN A HOLIDAZE by Christina Lauren yesterday. I’ve mostly been watching a ton of TV and movies and playing my Switch. They keep my mind off the itching. I’ve also spent some time with friends when I’m feeling up to it. All these things have helped me keep my spirits up.

I hope I can get back into reading and blogging again soon as long as this round of steroids gets rid of my hives for good. Until then, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!

P.S. Sorry this is a duplicate post. My blog feed didn’t pick up my initial post and I tried to do some troubleshooting.

I’m hoping you can clear these up permanently; both conditions sound miserable! I just read an article about someone with chronic hives. They couldn’t figure out what in the world was causing them. They did eventually find a treatment. Wish I could remember more details. Merry Christmas, Jenni! Take care. xoxo

Thanks, Margaret! 😀 Merry Christmas to you as well!

Fortunately, the arm isn’t as miserable as it was. It’s still a bit annoying when the tingling happens. Hopefully, that will go away on its own as it continues to heal.

I’ve seen quite a bit about chronic hives myself in the last few months. It’s really interesting to read about how most people have no idea what they’re from. If the steroids don’t kick my hives’ ass, then my doctor’s probably going to send me to a dermatologist to get a biopsy of the hives and an allergist depending on what the biopsy shows. I’m hoping that the steroids will do the job.

Thanks, Wendy! 😀 I hope you have a wonderful holiday too!

Even if we don’t figure out what’s causing the hives, I hope the steroids do the trick this time. It would be nice to know the cause, though, so I can avoid this happening again.

I am glad your arm is feeling better and hope it continues to heal so you can avoid surgery–and because I don’t want you to have any discomfort or pain. I hope the higher dose of steroids will help get rid of the hives. I also hope you can figure out what’s causing them so you can avoid whatever it is. I don’t think I would be able to read much either given everything you are dealing with.

My knee was starting to feel more normal again before I decided to carry huge stacks of books up and down the stairs in multiple trips (my daughter and I are culling her book collection and will be donating the ones she or I don’t want anymore). Evidently my knee isn’t ready for that. My physical therapist reminded me to take it slow. Part of my problem is that when I have a burst of energy to get things done, I like to do them before I lose that energy. Who knows when I will have the energy again once it’s gone? More than you want to know. 🙂

I hope you feel better soon and have a Merry Christmas.

Thank you so much! 😀 I hope I can avoid surgery as well.

I’m sorry to hear about your knee. It’s so hard to know when something is healed all the way. I usually overdo it after recovering from something major. I also don’t might hearing about what’s going on with you. 😀 It’s how we get to know each other better!

Is your arm carpal tunnel? I recently realized that is what I have, and I started sleeping in a wrist splint made for it, which has helped tremendously! I am so sorry to hear that you still have hives!! I hope this round of steroids heals it AND you can figure out the cause. Merry Christmas!!

Unfortunately, it’s not carpal tunnel. It’s something in my neck. I hurt it in October and it’s just taking its sweet time to heal. 😕 I’m glad to hear your wrist splint is helping. When I was working full-time, I found out I had cubital tunnel, which is basically the same as carpal tunnel; it’s just a different nerve. Sleeping with a wrist splint really helped me too! 😀

So sorry about the hives! I hope they figure out what’s causing them…or at least figure out how to get rid of them soon. And I hope your arm continues to improve. Sending best wishes your way! And I hope you have a Merry Christmas despite everything. 😀
