Top Ten Tuesday

top-ten-tuesday

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is “Top Ten Characters in X Genre.” Since fantasy is my favorite, I’m going to go with my favorite characters in that genre. Here’s my list:

  1. Ron Weasley (Harry Potter series). I first fell in love with Ron in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I love his humor and quips, especially since he doesn’t mean for them to be funny. If JK Rowling had killed him in Deathly Hallows, I would’ve done a Stephen King a la Misery.
  2. Severus Snape (Harry Potter series). I love how complicated his character is. There’s just so much depth to him. In fact, I think he’s the roundest character in the whole series.
  3. Pantalaimon (His Dark Materials). I know Pan is just an extension of Lyra, but if you know me at all, you know that I love animals. Pan just made me realize how much I’d really like my own daemon.
  4. Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia). Oh, how I love Aslan. I don’t even know how to describe how much I love him. But, I wish he was more prominent in some of the stories.
  5. Magnus Bane (The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices). I adore Magnus! He’s so funny and eccentric. Most of my laughs in Cassandra Clare’s books come from Magnus or other characters’ views of Magnus.
  6. Katsa (Graceling). I love Katsa, even though she makes me crazy with some of her decisions. But, I love how strong she is and able she is to take care of herself and other people. I know it has a lot to do with her Grace, but I still love it.
  7. Nikki Beckett (Everneath and Everbound). I love that even though she made a horrible decision with dire consequences, she doesn’t blame anyone but herself. She doesn’t say, “It’s not fair.” She takes responsibility for her actions and tries to do everything she can to make up for her poor decision.
  8. Sioned (Dragon Prince trilogy). I love how strong and powerful she is. And, I love how much she helps Prince Rohan accomplish his duties as the High Prince. Without her, Prince Rohan definitely wouldn’t be as successful.
  9. Jasper Hale (Twilight Saga). I know we don’t get a huge glimpse of Jasper in the Twilight Saga, but he’s, by far, my favorite character of the series. I think his struggles are so endearing and I love his back story in Eclipse. And, I especially love seeing how he is around his family in Midnight Sun.
  10. Enna (Enna Burning). I loved reading about her struggles with her “fire” power. I thought her struggle was definitely the hardest out of the characters I’ve read about in the Books of Bayern series. (Keep in mind I haven’t read Forest Born yet.) I especially loved seeing how she overcame the struggles she had with her brother and his “fire” power.

This was harder than I thought it’d be. I have such a hard time remembering details about books I read unless I’ve read them multiple times. And, when I can remember details or characters, I usually only think of the main ones, even though I usually love the secondary ones better.

What about you? Who are some of your favorite characters (in any genre)?

Comments

  1. Yes, I love Ron and Severus. I almost did fantasy for this one, but then thought that it wouldn’t be fair to other books, because there are SO MANY awesome characters in HP. :)

  2. Oh how I love Ron. I think he’s my favorite too!

  3. Snape is the real hero in the Harry Potter series. At least he is to me! Great list!

  4. Awww, Jasper. Truth: I was so worried when they cast him, but Jackson Rathbone made me love Jasper EVEN MORE. He’s so much more than the books show, I feel like. I have a copy of Midnight Sun and maybe someday I need to read it (it’s the draft Stephanie put up on her site) if it shows more of Jasper.

I agree with you re: Snape. He is a great character!

    • Oh yay! Someone who agrees with me! I love Jackson Rathbone as Jasper too! I thought he did great!!! :D And, yes, read the draft of Midnight Sun. It’s AWESOME! My favorite of all the books!

  5. Lovely and interesting list. Very excellent point about Snape. And I loved Pan too! I did not, however, love Enna. I think it had a lot to do with the audio narrator though. :)

    • I know a lot of people who didn’t like Enna much, so I understand. It did take me a little while to get into her story, but I did end up liking her. I’m glad you love Pan. :D

  6. Oh my gosh, I love most of these characters (and the ones I don’t is only because I haven’t read the books yet). If Ron was killed in HP, I would definitely be your accomplice. He is one of my favorites!

I love Snape too. He is such a complicated character. He would make me so angry when he was awful to Harry, but at the same time (even before we knew his backstory) we (the readers) knew that there was more to him.

Oh my gosh, and Pantalaimon! When I was reading His Dark Materials, I kept calling my dog Ginger to come over and snuggle with me. I love HDM!

    • Yay! :D I’m so excited that we love the same people! :D And, I totally did the same thing with my cats when I was reading HDM. Love that story! And, yes, I completely agree about Snape. And, I’m glad to know I’d have an accomplice!

  7. I haven’t read the books form your #8 or #10, but I love your list! Although if I were to do a Fantasy book list, I’d have a lot of Game of Thrones characters.

I agree about Jasper, I really loved him and Emmett, even though neither are featured as much as I would have liked.

  8. You know how much I hated Twilight but, yes, Jasper was and is awesomeness.

  9. Yay Snape! Yay Jasper! :)

  10. I haven’t read the Dragon Prince Trilogy but I am with you 100% on the others. Love those characters so much
