January Book Club

In January, my book club read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I was excited to read the book because I had heard such great things about it. After reading it, I thought it might be a fun book to discuss and it was. Here’s what we all thought:

  • Most people enjoyed the book but didn’t care for the info dumps, aka the telling instead of the showing.
  • One person thought it was a unique dystopian story in that it was more hopeful than most other dystopian stories.
  • Most people thought the romance sucked because it was just thrown in there and didn’t seem believable. I personally thought the author sucked at writing kissing scenes.
  • Most of us liked Wade and thought he was a good unlikely hero.
  • Even though the book was predictable and convenient, a couple of people still felt like it was a page-turner.
  • One person said it felt like she was reading World of Warcraft in book form.
  • Pretty much everyone is excited to watch the movie.

In February, we’re reading How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. I’ve already read it, but I might reread it for book club. It depends on what else I have going on.

We’re also coming up on the time of year to choose our next reads. We discussed what we thought would be fun to read and came up with some fun ideas like a good erotica. 😂 We’re just joking because most of our book club wouldn’t read that type of book. We had a good laugh about it, though. Next month, we’re bringing our suggestions so we can get a list started for voting.

Have you read Ready Player One? If so, what did you think?

I don’t know how you always remember what everyone thought. I sort of do but not enough to write a post. I’m glad you’re doing these again and I like that you shared it on our Facebook page.
