Top Ten Tuesday #37
Standalone Books I Wish had a Sequel
This week’s prompt is “Favorite Words.” While I love words, I wasn’t feeling the topic this morning. I’ve decided to do a past prompt that I didn’t get a chance to do instead. It is “Standalone Books I Wish had a Sequel.” Here are my top ten books:
Technically, THE HOST is supposed to be the first book in a series. I haven’t seen any other books in the series and I’d really like a sequel at least. I think THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN, ATLANTIA, and SUNSHINE feel more like middle books in a trilogy. The other six books are just stories I’d like to check in on.
Just for funsies, here are five of my favorite words:
Discombobulated
Cattywampus
Falderal
Malarkey
Jackanapes
What about you? Which books or words made your list this week? Do we have any in common?
I like your list of words. The Host definitely needs a sequel. It should have been more popular than it was – I loved it!
Have a great week!

I think THE HOST was actually pretty popular. Meyer just gave up on writing after the MIDNIGHT SUN leak. She’s started to write again, obviously, and I hope someday she’ll write the other two books she had planned for THE HOST. 😀
That cover of The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is very cool! (Pun intended).
Lol. It really is, isn’t it? It’s one of my favorite covers I’ve ever seen. 😀
I wasn’t feeling the topic and went rogue today as well. Great topic choice! I really wish Night Circus and Little Fires Everywhere had sequels too!
Yay for going rogue! 😀 Yes! I think they both have more storytelling potential.
CATTYWAMPUS. It’s a perfect word for when the world is topsy-turvy.
Right?! I love the imagery the word conjures. 😀
Malarkey and discombobulated are fab words! I probably wouldn’t personally read a sequel to Little Fires Everywhere as I wasn’t a huge fan of the book, but I understand the desire for one, the ending of it was a little too open for me.

Thanks! 😀 I completely understand your reasoning. It wasn’t my favorite book by any means, but I’d love to see what happened after….
Cattywampus is such a fabulous word.

Right?! I love the imagery the word conjures. 😀
I agree about The Night Circus!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
THE NIGHT CIRCUS would be my most anticipated sequel if it ever happens. 😀
Those are great words! I would have loved a sequel to Brandon Sanderson’s “The Rithmatist” but it’s been a long time and he hasn’t written one. I’ve read a couple of these books and would vote for a sequel for “The Night Circus.”
Thanks, Margaret! 😀 I’ve only ever read ELANTRIS by Brandon Sanderson. I loved it and I plan to read more of his books. They’re just so little time, so many books. LOL. THE NIGHT CIRCUS would be my most anticipated sequel if it ever happens.
Oh, I’d definitely love more of The Host too!
Right?! I know Stephenie Meyer stopped writing because of the MIDNIGHT SUN leak, but she’s started up a bit again. I wish she’d write the two sequels to THE HOST she had originally planned to write. 😀
The Night Circus looks good even though I wasn’t crazy about her other book The Starless Sea. I think I’m in the minority though! I remember hearing Eliza was excellent. Atlantia had me super curious when it came out, and Little Fires Everywhere too (I think they made a show of that? )
I haven’t read THE STARLESS SEA yet so I can’t say much about it. I did love THE NIGHT CIRCUS, though. I loved the setting, characters, and magical realism. Yes, ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS is so good! It ended nicely, but I’d like to see what’s going on now after the events of the book. ATLANTIA was fun, but it felt like it needed a prequel and a sequel. And, they did make a show of LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE. I really enjoyed the show and liked the book a lot.
I loved THE HOLLOW CITY when I read it, but it’s been so long now (and my memory is so bad) that I can’t remember what it was about! I’m usually up for a sequel of any book I loved, though.
Happy TTT!

I don’t remember everything about THE HOLLOW CITY, but I do remember the general gist and wishing it had a sequel because of the twist. I’m like you; I’m pretty much up for a sequel in any book I loved too, even if I never get to them. Ha! 😀
I would love a sequel for The Host! And I have been actively worrying about what happened after Coldtown for like, a decade, now. It’s about time we had a sequel, haha!

Yes, I really want to know what happens after THE HOST. I just want Stephenie Meyer to finish the series since it was meant to be a series. Even if it ended up just being a duology, I’d still love to know what happens after the events of THE HOST.
And, right?! I know why Black decided to end THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN where she did, but I want more!!!
I really wish The Night Circus had a sequel, too!
If Morgernstern ever wrote a sequel to THE NIGHT CIRCUS, I’d drop everything else to read it! 😀
I couldn’t agree more about The Coldest Girl in Coldtown! While on one hand I kind of applaud Holly for ending it like she did, I was also desperate to know what happened! I’d love to see a sequel for that one.
Yes, exactly. I completely get why Black ended THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN the way she did. I just want and need more! 😀
Nice topic today, Jenni! I wasn’t feeling the words topic either
Thanks, Wendy! 😀 It was fun to do.
