This week’s prompt is “Comfort Reads” and it comes with instructions. They are: Share which books or kinds of books you turn to when you need to escape; they can either be specific titles if you love to re-read or qualities of books you look for in a comfort read.
When I need a comfort read, something to get me out of a reading slump or to cheer me up when I’m feeling down, I can usually rely on: 1) rereading a favorite book, or 2) reading a book with lots of kissing. Here are my top ten 16 comfort reads:
What about you? Which books made your list this week? Do we have any in common?
I learned in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that life is full of dialectics, or two opposing truths. In this case, the two opposing truths are: 1) I don’t agree with JKR’s stance regarding trans people, and 2) I still love Harry Potter.
Great list of comfort reads. I also love to re-read my favorite books and series when I need some pick me up or a palate cleanser. And you have some really great books on your list.
I always think about reading Cinder and Graceling and Shiver when I see them on lists of good reads. I am pretty sure I have all of these up on my TBR shelf!
Lol. I feel that way about certain books too. I can’t think any off the top of my head, but I’m sure I’ll see a couple of them on bloggers’ lists today. 😀
It’s a good series to reread. Such a fun story to revisit. I need to finish my reread I started a couple of years ago. 💜 I just need to read Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.
So many amazing reads! Books like Anna and the French Kiss, Harry Potter, the Shadowhunter series, The Hunger Games or the Lunar Chronicles are definitely comfort re-reads to me too.
I understand. There are just too many books out there and took little time. I do love to reread, but I don’t reread as often as I’d like because I want to read the new books more. 🙂
Re- reading can be so comforting and I don’t do it enough. The Hunger Games is a series I finally read just a few years ago, and loved it. A lot of these too look familiar, I see a couple I’ve used for cover posts or whatnot even if I haven’t read them. 🙂
It really is. I could reread TWILIGHT over and over again. Normally, I feel compelled to read the rest of the series. Lately, though, just rereading TWILIGHT has been a fun experience. 😀
I’ve only read the first four on your list, although I’ve had several others on my TBR for a while. YA books would definitely make for great comfort reading, especially Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments; I should have included some in my list!
I used to read a lot more YA than I do now that’s why I have so much YA on this list. It’s only been in the last couple of years that my reading interests have started to change more toward adult books. I’ll still read an occasional YA, unless it’s an old favorite but I gravitate more toward adult books now. 🙂
I know! I couldn’t narrow my list down any further. I’m with you. I like to revisit old friends too. I also like to revisit my favorite worlds agains, like Harry Potter. 😀

I’ve heard good things about My Lady Jane!

It’s really funny and a lot of fun to read. 🙂

I really liked Shiver.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s a good one. I need to finish the trilogy. 😀
I used to reread Harry Potter a lot as a kid, though it’s been a few years since I’ve done one!

It’s a good series to reread. Such a fun story to revisit. I need to finish my reread I started a couple of years ago. 💜 I just need to read Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.
I’ve enjoyed several of these. I usually grab a Regency romance for a comfort re-read; Georgette Heyer, Joan Wolf and Mary Balogh are my go-tos.
I like regency romance as well. 🙂
So many amazing reads! Books like Anna and the French Kiss, Harry Potter, the Shadowhunter series, The Hunger Games or the Lunar Chronicles are definitely comfort re-reads to me too.
Thanks, Lindsey! 😀 I’m glad we have a lot of these in common!
I have never been much of a re-reader but someday I might. I do have a few books that I would like to reread, which is unusual for me 🙂
I understand. There are just too many books out there and took little time. I do love to reread, but I don’t reread as often as I’d like because I want to read the new books more. 🙂
My Lady Jane is such FUN! I need to reread it. And, A Countess Below Stairs is on my TBR.
It is, isn’t it? 😀 I love its premise and how funny it is. I also love the characters. I hope you enjoy A Countess Below Stairs when you read it.
Re- reading can be so comforting and I don’t do it enough. The Hunger Games is a series I finally read just a few years ago, and loved it. A lot of these too look familiar, I see a couple I’ve used for cover posts or whatnot even if I haven’t read them. 🙂
Agreed! 😀 I don’t reread nearly enough either. Too many new books to read. I’m glad you read The Hunger Games and enjoyed it.
Harry Potter — Yes! Also, The Hunger Games! 😀
Right?! I love both series so much! 😀 I could reread them every year and never get tired of them.
These are all wonderful books. I love a good comfort read.
Comfort reads are essential, aren’t they? 😀 I’m glad you like my list.
Twilight is a great comfort read. I’ve read it many times myself.
It really is. I could reread TWILIGHT over and over again. Normally, I feel compelled to read the rest of the series. Lately, though, just rereading TWILIGHT has been a fun experience. 😀

16! lol! My comfort reads are all about the characters. I want to revisit old friends.
