Books I was SOOO Excited to Get and I Still Haven’t Read

The literary community in Utah is amazing. A. Maz. Ing. Before the pandemic, my bookish friends and I used to go to a signing at least once every other month sometimes more often. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some fabulous authors like Stephenie Meyer, Lois Lowry, Markus Zusak, Cassandra Clare, and Sarah J. Maas, not to mention all the Utah authors like Shannon Hale, Brandon Sanderson, Ally Condie, Jennifer A. Nielsen, Jessica Day George, etc. (I’m not saying this to brag. I’m saying it to help paint a picture.) I bought books at most of the signings I attended, and I’ve read some of them. And, I haven’t readatleasthalfthebooks in my library.

As you can imagine, this week’s prompt’s really hard for me to narrow down my list to just ten books. (I know. Someone call the wambulance. #firstworldproblems ) Anyway, here are my top ten 12 books I was sooo excited to get and I still haven’t read:

What about you? Which books made your list this week? Do we have any in common?

Bookish Characters

This week’s prompt is “Bookish Characters.” This seems easy, except I think we’re supposed to choose a category of character, like favorite readers, librarians, professors, etc. At least that’s what I’m understanding from the instructions. Here are my top ten favorite bookworms:

Hermione Granger

Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

Bella Swan

Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

Will Herondale

Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare

Tessa Gray

Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare

Lady Jane Grey

MY LADY JANE by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

Marianne Daventry

EDENBROOKE by Julianne Donaldson

Liesel Meminger

THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak

Cath Avery

FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell

Anne Shirley

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by LM Montgomery

Elizabeth Bennett

PRIDE & PREJUDICE by Jane Austen

What about you? Which bookish characters are on your list this week?

I’ve been learning in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that life is full of dialectics, or two opposing truths. In this case, the two opposing truths are: 1) I don’t agree with JKR’s stance regarding trans people, and 2) I still love Harry Potter.

One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read

This week’s prompt is “One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read” and was submitted by my friend Susan from Bloggin’ ‘Bout Books. Here are the last ten books I’ve read, excluding any rereads:

Delightful

Thrilling

Ingenious

Unputdownable

Fun

Intriguing

Powerful

Suspenseful

Relatable

Frustrating

I enjoyed reading every one of these books. The highest rating was five stars for DEAR EMMIE BLUE and the lowest was three and a half stars for TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE. It was harder than I thought it would be to think of only one word to review each of these books. It was a lot of fun, though. Good prompt choice, Susan!

What about you? What are the last ten books you’ve read?

Click each cover image to read my full review of each book, except for DEAR EMMIE BLUE. That review’s posting Thursday of this week.

Books I Put on my TBR Because the Covers are Purple

This week’s prompt is “Books with [___] on the Cover” and it comes with instructions. They are: Pick a thing (a color, an item, a place, an animal, a scripty font, a sexy person, etc.) and share covers that have that thing on the cover.

I’ll admit I often choose to read books based solely on how much the cover appeals to me. The cover’s the reason I first pick up the book to read the synopsis, getting the author’s foot in the door, so to speak.

Here are my top ten books I’m looking forward to reading (or I put on my TBR) because they have purple covers:

A couple of these books have been on my TBR for more than a decade. I’ll get to them someday … I hope, lol. Too many books, not enough time. Am I right? If you’ve read any of these books, please tell me which one I should read first in the comments.

I also want to share three books with purple covers I’ve already read and adored. They are:

I’m a sucker for purple and a gorgeous cover.

What about you? Which books with [___] on the cover are on your list this week?

Bookish Presents I’d Like for My Birthday

This week’s prompt is “Bookish Merchandise I’d Like to Own.” This is a really fun prompt and I’ll do it when there’s another freebie week.

I’m changing things up this week because today’s my birthday! If you know me IRL, then you know my birthday’s my favorite day of the year, even if I’m *cough* forty-four *cough* this year. The prompt I’m doing today is bookish presents I’d like for my birthday. Here are my top ten (click the picture for more details):

I already own four complete sets of the Harry Potter series, two editions of Sorcerer’s Stone, six editions of Philosopher’s Stone, and five editions of Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire. IMHO, you can’t have too many editions of Harry Potter.

What about you? What bookish things would you like as presents for your next birthday?
