My Thoughts

Even though READY PLAYER ONE was only a so-so read for me, I’m glad I read it. I adored reading about all the 80s nostalgia. I felt like I was reliving my childhood. I’d agree with the characters when they talked about “our” favorites and then I’d get mad at them when they dissed one of mine. My biggest pet peeve with the story / writing was all the info dumps. Whenever Wade got hold of a new technology, I felt like Cline couldn’t help himself. He just went on and on about the technology he created and it was a little much.

My Thoughts

I really liked ARTEMIS for the most part. I thought it was interesting and it makes me want to read THE MARTIAN, which I was on the fence about before. Weir includes the science part in a way that makes it fun and interesting, not boring or like I’m listening to a lecture in school.

I liked the MC, Jazz Bashara, but she read more like a teenage boy than a 23-year-old woman. During the first part of the book, I couldn’t figure out what it was that seemed off, but then I read someone else’s review that mentioned the teenage boy thing and realized that was it. Does that mean she’s all bad because she reads like a teenage boy? No. I still liked her sassiness and don’t-take-shit-from-anyone attitude. She just said some things that no woman I know would say.

I still think the book is worth a read. It kept my interest and I really wanted to know what was going on, who was behind everything, and what would happen in the end. I even made some guesses as to who the bad guy was. I was way off.

My Thoughts

I loved reading B.A. Paris’s first novel BEHIND CLOSED DOORS so I decided to read THE BREAKDOWN too. I’m glad I picked this one up because I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed the premise and was on the edge of my seat.

There are things that BEHIND CLOSED DOORS did well that I missed in THE BREAKDOWN and things that were done much better in THE BREAKDOWN. In my opinion, THE BREAKDOWN was much more believable, but I liked the protagonist in BEHIND CLOSED DOORS better. I loved hating the antagonists in both books and thought they were both well written. I loved that even though you can guess what’s going on, Paris still keeps you guessing until the very end. Both books have their strengths and weaknesses, which I love because it means I’ll read whatever Paris writes.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed about both of Paris’ books is watching the MC exact revenge on the antagonist. It’s all kinds of fun to read.

My Thoughts

I was really excited to read THE CHEMIST because I’m a huge fan of Stephenie Meyer and it was her first new non-Twilight Saga story since THE HOST in 2008.

I really liked the characters, especially all the dogs. I thought the story was intriguing and suspenseful and, at first, I wanted to keep reading so I knew how it would end. None of my predictions came true, which is a little disappointing, but at least I didn’t see “it” coming. I’m not sure if having surgery (and being doped up) in the middle of my read tainted my experience, but I thought the story was about 100 pages too long and a bit anti-climactic.

I must say THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR was very gripping. I wanted to figure out what was going on from the beginning. I even enjoyed all the twists and the ending. However, I didn’t really care for any of the characters. I did in the beginning, but then a revelation happened to spoil that. I still finished it because I wanted to know how it all went down.

One of the characters is the very wealthy father of Anne. He’s pretty much a dick and has hated Marco from day one. As I read the last 30%, I finally realized whose voice I’ve had in my head every time Richard speaks. It’s Carter Pewterschmidt from The Family Guy. It fits perfectly with how much he hates Peter, lol. Anyway, even though I didn’t really care for any of the characters, the book was still fun to read.
