My Thoughts

When I read DIVINE RIVALS and RUTHLESS VOWS, I really wanted to learn more about the gods and their magic system. I’m so glad Ross decided to write WILD REVERENCE as a prequel from the POV of one of those gods. I loved spending time in the Under and Skyward Realms. I also loved seeing the Mortal Realm from a god’s perspective. Matilda was a fantastic character to give us the insight we wanted. I loved watching her grow into her powers, gaining confidence, and kicking ass. I especially enjoyed witnessing her life with and love for Vincent.

My Thoughts

Oh, wow! THIS KINGDOM WILL NOT KILL ME gripped me from page 1. It was non-stop adventure and suspense. I adored this book so much! I need book 2 now!!! I’m so emotionally invested in this story and in these characters. I have so much anxiety wondering how this is going to play out! Everard is my new favorite literary crush! I hope Maggie realizes that he loves her sooner rather than later.

My Thoughts

I love, love, loved PROJECT HAIL MARY! The story was fascinating, suspenseful, thought-provoking, and gave me all the feels. It’s also very readable. I was completely hooked as soon as I started reading and I’ll be thinking about this one for a very long time. I loved both Grace and Rocky so much, especially Rocky. I loved their relationship, how they learned to communicate with each other, and how deep their friendship became. The audiobook was definitely the way to read this because of how Rocky communicates. It just made it so much more fun to listen to. I’m so glad I decided to read this before the movie comes out next year.

My Thoughts

I honestly didn’t know what to expect while reading THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY. It ended up being the most profound reading experience I’ve ever had. It spoke to me like no other book has. I felt seen as someone who has struggled with severe depression, suicidal ideation, and crippling regret for most of my adult life.

I understood Nora, all the emotions she felt, especially the loneliness and despair. I understood her suicidal ideation and urges. AND, even when she didn’t, I knew her depression and loneliness were lying to her–telling her she wasn’t needed, no one wanted her around, she let everyone down, or they’d all be better off without her.

I’m convinced that Nora’s journey through the Midnight Library was the only way she could’ve learned what and come to the conclusions she did. After all, one of the lessons the librarian wanted her to learn was, “The only way to learn is to live.” Haig beautifully illustrates what DBT did in helping me want to build a life worth living. Its message that it’s not too late to start living life is one I think we all need to be reminded of once in a while.

Update: Nora has a small cameo in the sequel, THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN. She tells the main character that 7 years ago to the day, she did something that changed her life, obviously referring to the events in this book. We learn that that day is April 19th, which is my birthday. This book means so much to me and to have the connection of my birthday as the day this book is set just makes me feel like this story was meant for me that much more.
