My Thoughts
I’ve been dreading reading ALLEGIANT since the first reports after its release came in saying that almost everyone hated it. I kind of knew what to expect because I’d been spoiled. I knew the main reason people weren’t happy and I knew other things too. I’m not sure if it was that knowledge that saved it for me, or if I would’ve been one of the few who liked it, because I did really enjoy the story. I also thought it fit well with the trilogy and with the characters and who they were.
It was so different than DIVERGENT and INSURGENT, but I thought it was in a good way. The events that took place seemed believable and logical in the world Roth created. Even though I knew things, I was still on the edge of my seat because I didn’t know how or when the things I knew would take place, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I loved Tris and Four’s relationship in DIVERGENT–them figuring out whether to trust one another and developing feelings for each other. I hated their relationship in INSURGENT because they were always lying to each other and just wouldn’t talk to each other. I was worried it would be more of the same in ALLEGIANT, but thankfully, it wasn’t. I actually really enjoyed their relationship and longed for those times when they were alone.
