Title: By Your Side I ended up really enjoying BY YOUR SIDE. I really connected with Autumn and her anxiety disorder. I loved her story of discovering her limits and what she was okay with. I also loved the slow-burn romance between her and Dax. They had great chemistry and sexual tension.
Title: Finnikin of the Rock I was hooked from the moment I started reading FINNIKIN OF THE ROCK. I had a hard time putting the book down. I loved the characters and the world Marchetta created. I wanted to know how it would all go down. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough kissing, lol. I’m excited to read the sequels at some point.
Title: A Midsummer Night #nofilter I needed something quick to read so I decided to read A MIDSUMMER NIGHT #NOFILTER. It’s basically Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream told in texts with lots of emojis. Let’s just say that I finally understand what this play is about now, but this wasn’t really my thing. I can see how it might be helpful for younger readers in understanding the play more easily.
Title: Reaper REAPER wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I thought there would be more paranormal-ness to the story, but it was a very straight forward story about death and dying. To be quite honest, it was really depressing. I’m glad it was such a fast read and I got done with it in two sittings so I didn’t have to stay in the story for very long.
Having lost someone close to me and still not being completely over their death, REAPER was really hard to read. I felt like parts of it were very real looks at death and grief. I’m not sure if that was the author’s purpose, but that’s kind of what I got out of it. Even though I had a hard time, I’m glad I read it. I liked Leigh’s writing style.
Title: City of Heavenly Fire Why did it take me so long to get to CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE?! It was so good! I absolutely adored it. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. I wish I had read it sooner than this, but now I’m sad I’m done. It’s such a fantastic ending to the Mortal Instruments series. I’m so glad Clare decided to add the last three books to this series.
Because the Infernal Devices trilogy is so closely related to the last three books in the Mortal Instrument series, I love that Clare doesn’t spoil the reader and come out and say who Brother Zachariah is. She hints at it so if you’ve read the prequel trilogy, then you know. It’s stroke of genius on her part.
Update: When read this for a second time, I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. I thought Sophie Turner was an amazing narrator. She’s really good with accents, which I didn’t know. Jason Dohring was awesome as well.
