My Thoughts

EMMY & OLIVER was not only a fun YA romance, but it also tackled some pretty heavy topics. I found myself crying a few times during my read because the emotions were so well done. It definitely added to the overall depth of the story and my enjoyment. I had a hard time putting the book down. This is my first Robin Benway novel and I definitely look forward to reading her other novels.

My Thoughts

LITTLE WOMEN was an interesting read and experience since I knew hardly anything about it. I’ve never watched any of the movies. And, I didn’t know that the second half of the novel is often published on its own as GOOD WIVES and that there are two other books in the series. I also didn’t know that the story is semi-autobiographical. I only knew the story was about four sisters.

As far as the story is concerned, I think it’s worth reading. It’s very heart-warming and heart-wrenching at the same time. I loved the close relationship the sisters had with each other. I cried when Beth died. And, I groaned when Jo rejected Laurie’s proposal. I can’t believe he married Amy and Jo married a man twice her age. I wish Alcott could’ve overlooked the similarities to her own life enough to allow Jo and Laurie to have their happy ending. I know I would’ve liked the overall story better if she had.

My Thoughts

I’m a huge TWILIGHT fan so when I heard Meyer was releasing a gender-bent version for the 10th anniversary, I was cautiously optimistic. It was really trippy, but I liked the ending and thought it was interesting. I had fun with the changes, but I like the original better.

Meyer said she wrote LIFE AND DEATH because of the criticism she had received about TWILIGHT not working had the roles been reversed (i.e., male human / female vampire). After reading LIFE AND DEATH, I kind think the criticism is valid. It just felt too weird. Had I not read TWILIGHT first, maybe I would’ve thought differently.

My Thoughts

I really liked where REACHED went. I thought it was very realistic. Most dystopian books with revolution end up being so far-fetched that I don’t think they can work. Sure, there were conveniences that happened that probably weren’t as realistic, but the way the Rising and the Society were dealt with was fascinating and seemed like it could actually happen if it were real.

I loved Ally’s writing style. It’s so poetic, beautiful, descriptive, and concise. The descriptions of the setting were so vivid. There were times that I felt like I was in the midst of everything going on. Even though I wouldn’t want to live in Cassia’s world, the descriptions made me want to see the Society and the different provinces and areas.

While REACHED was told only from Cassia’s point-of-view and CROSSED was told from both hers and Ky’s,  REACHED is told from Cassia’s, Ky’s, and Xander’s. I loved being inside Xander’s head, finally, knowing what he thought and how he felt about everything. And, I loved that the three of them were in three different critical places, so we got a good overview of what was happening and not just a closed off view.

I’m really happy and satisfied with how this trilogy ended. It was a fun ride and I’m glad to have experienced it with the characters.

My Thoughts

I knew a little bit about ELEANOR going in, but not much. I knew it had paranormal elements and I knew it was about a girl named Eleanor who was the underdog. Other than that, I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I really liked the story and character. I liked the emotions I felt during the story. There was a broad range of emotions, instead of being shallow like most stories. I wondered what Eleanor was the entire time I read the story. I had my guesses because of my friend’s interest in the story, but I wasn’t sure. The mystery of not knowing really added to the story and it added a lot to her character. I’m curious about the sequels–CELESTE and DAVID–and where the story goes from here.
