Title: The Joy Luck Club THE JOY LUCK CLUB was a very interesting read. I really enjoyed the nods to Chinese and Chinese-American culture. I especially enjoyed reading the mothers’ stories and their hardships in China and how they came to the U.S. It was interesting to see the differences between the mothers and the daughters.
Title: A Wrinkle in Time I really enjoyed the fantasy and science aspects of A WRINKLE IN TIME. However, I felt like the book was way too short, Meg annoyed me, and I have so many questions. I think if the story had been fleshed out a little more, my questions would’ve been answered. As far as Meg, I don’t know how that can be helped. I really liked her brother, Charles Wallace, and I’m glad he was along for the ride. Otherwise, I probably would’ve hated the book. I probably would’ve like the story better if I read this when I was younger.
Title: Reaper REAPER wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I thought there would be more paranormal-ness to the story, but it was very straight forward. It was such a depressing read. I’m actually really glad I was able to read it in two sittings. Parts of the story were very real looks at death and grief, which was hard to sit with, and testament to Leigh’s descriptive writing.
Title: Ready Player One Even though READY PLAYER ONE was only a so-so read for me, I’m glad I read it. I adored reading about all the 80s nostalgia. I felt like I was reliving my childhood. I’d agree with the characters when they talked about “our” favorites and then I’d get mad at them when they dissed one of mine. My biggest pet peeve with the story / writing was all the info dumps. Whenever Wade got hold of a new technology, I felt like Cline couldn’t help himself. He just went on and on about the technology he created and it was a little much.
