ALL THE TRUTH THAT’S IN ME wasn’t what I was expecting. I didn’t realize it was historical fiction until I started reading it, which turned me off at first. However, since I like historical fiction, that quickly turned into a plus. It took me a little bit to get used to the unique writing style. It was a bit slow, but I ended up enjoying the story and I really liked the characters, especially Judith and Lucas.

My Thoughts
I wasn’t really sure I wanted to read THE SUGAR QUEEN at first. To be honest, I was worried it would make me crave sugary treats and I don’t need that in my life. Fortunately, it didn’t do that and I ended up really liking the story. The characters were fun to read about and I loved the magical realism. I’ll definitely give this author another try.

Format: Kindle

I was so worried I wouldn’t like FURIOUSLY HAPPY based on what I had heard from other readers. I was pleasantly surprised, however. I found this to be a very raw, honest, unique look at how one person deals with their mental illness. At times, I felt like Lawson was stealing parts from my own life as she described hers. This book is definitely not for everyone, but I’m glad I read it, and I’ll read more from her as I feel like she and I are kindred spirits.
The Breakdown
Author: B.A. Paris
Genre: Thriller
Format: Hard Cover

My Thoughts
I loved reading B.A. Paris’s first novel BEHIND CLOSED DOORS so I decided to read THE BREAKDOWN too. I’m glad I picked this one up because I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed the premise and was on the edge of my seat.
There are things that BEHIND CLOSED DOORS did well that I missed in THE BREAKDOWN and things that were done much better in THE BREAKDOWN. In my opinion, THE BREAKDOWN was much more believable, but I liked the protagonist in BEHIND CLOSED DOORS better. I loved hating the antagonists in both books and thought they were both well written. I loved that even though you can guess what’s going on, Paris still keeps you guessing until the very end. Both books have their strengths and weaknesses, which I love because it means I’ll read whatever Paris writes.
One of the things I’ve enjoyed about both of Paris’ books is watching the MC exact revenge on the antagonist. It’s all kinds of fun to read.
The Paper Magician

My Thoughts
I really enjoyed THE PAPER MAGICIAN. The story was fun, full of adventure, magic, and very unique. I’ve never read a book with this type of magic in it, and I hope we get to explore the other types of magic more in the sequels. I really liked all the origami since it’s one of my favorite hobbies. I even recognized some of the folds Ceony and Emery did.
I adored Emery and can’t wait to see how his relationship with Ceony plays out in the sequels. I did like the protagonist, Ceony, more as the story continued. I also loved Fennel.
