Sunday News #54

Sunday Post and Sunday Salon are blog news memes hosted at Caffeinated Reviewer and Reader Buzz, respectively. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, and showcase books and other things.
Feeling

I’m feeling a little bit dizzy, headachy, and congested again. It seems that my sinus infection hasn’t gone away. My doctor took a nose swab of each nostril. You know the swab I mean, the ones that go all the way up your nose and feels like it’s scratching your brain for an interminable amount of time?! Yeah, that’s the one. Blech.

The overall results of the swab came back on Friday and it seems that I not only have a bacterial infection, I have 4 fairly resistant bacterial infections. Once he receives the details and finds out what kinds of bacteria I’m playing host to, he’ll prescribe me a compounded antibiotic that goes in a sinus rinse. Hopefully, we can send these buggers on their way sooner rather than later.

Blogging

Here’s what I posted on the blog this week:

My review for THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES will post tomorrow.

Reading

I started reading THIS SPELLS LOVE by Kate Robb yesterday. I would’ve started reading it sooner, but I’ve been distracted by other things (see Loving section below).

I’ve also been listening to THE HUNGER GAMES audiobook. I think the narrator’s different from the “books on CD” version I listening to many moons ago. I like the new narrator a lot.

I also decided to join a buddy read with two of my friends. One of them wanted to read THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO this month for Black History Month. We’re all reading abridged editions. I feel like my edition could’ve been abridged a little bit more.

Listening

I listened to the score for THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS this week. It’s one of my favorites. I’m sharing this particular song, “The Kiss,” because the music in one of the episodes of THE TUDORS reminded us of this song.

Watching

As mentioned above, Corey and I are currently watching THE TUDORS. I’ve wanted to see it for a while. I’m fascinated by that era in history. We just finished season 1. Henry’s trying to get a divorce from Catherine of Aragon so he can marry Anne Boleyn. I think season 2 is going to cover their marriage and her beheading. There are only 4 seasons so I don’t think they can devote one wife per season. Maybe some of the others will be quicker.

Loving

I’m loving TheStorygraph. I decided to join because my friend Suey will be hosting the FAIRY TALE read-along there in March. I wish I had joined sooner because I have always despised Goodreads, as it’s so clunky and ugly. (I was a fan of Shelfari, but Amazon killed it in 2018.) I don’t love everything about TheStoryGraph, but I do love its simplicity, some of the community features, and it’s a lot more pleasing to the eye than Goodreads. Unfortunately, it’s taken me a lot of time to clean up the data I imported from Goodreads. I’m done with that so now I can get back to reading.

If you’re on TheStoryGraph and want to follow me or be my friend, here’s my profile. Also, don’t worry. I’m not quitting Goodreads. I just may spend more time over on TheStoryGraph.

Wanting

I want Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of an early spring to be right. I need more sun and warmth. Plus, if spring comes early, maybe summer will hold off until it’s supposed to and we’ll get a long spring. That would be the best!

Needing

I need to get out more. I’ve been hibernating in my house a lot over the past few weeks. It’s probably because I haven’t felt very good. The dreary weather also makes it harder for me to get up and out.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

Oh I hope you are better soon! And I LOVE the Clannad music for Mohicans

    Lake Placid is amazing

Moqorro was NOT on GoT show, book only character. Interesting one too, but a lot of the stuff he foreshadowed we may never see lol

Thanks, Greg! 😀 I love the Clannad music from Mohicans too. It’s really good.

Ha ha! I love that despite how much it sucks, you still think LAKE PLACID’s amazing.

Okay, that’s good know about Moqorro. It’s sad his foreshadowings won’t get any time since Martin doesn’t seem to be in the mindset to finish the series.

Thanks, Roberta! 😀 Right?! I wonder how common it is to have more than one bacterial infection in something like our sinuses. I know I play host to an extraordinary amount of bacteria strains as I’ve been diagnosed with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) before.

Noooooooo!! Not an abridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo! LOL!

No, seriously, I’m happy you’re reading it because it’s one of my all-time favorite books and it’s so good, but I have no idea what the abridged versions cut out and that makes me anxious that you might be missing all the best parts! Still, I hope you enjoy it very much!

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well, I hope you recover soon!

Thanks, Haze! 😀 I know I feel bad about reading the abridged version. I don’t think I’d get through it if it were the unabridged. I love long books, but I struggle with books published earlier than the 1970s. I trip over the flowery language and local customs we’re just supposed to know.

I loved the Tudors show! But agree it was really short and I wish it had went a little longer, but some of the other wives didn’t really maybe need as much time? It’s been a while since I watched it to see how they did that. I also loved the tv series about Mary Queen of Scots, it was called Reign. Although I know they took a lot of liberties with that story on the show. This Spells Love was one of my last BOTM purchases. I don’t know when I’ll get to it though. And I hope the prediction of early spring is true, and I would love a longer spring and for summer to wait its turn! lol Have a good week!

That’s good to know it remains good despite it being short. I want to watch REIGN after because it’s the same era. I don’t mind liberties in these types of stories since we really can’t know what exactly was happening back then.

THIS SPELLS LOVE was one of my last BOTM purchases too. I’m looking forward to reading it. 😀

I don’t mind the lack of warmth since it’s winter, but I do crave the sun. It’s so good for us! Yikes on the bacterial infections. No wonder you haven’t felt great. 🙁 Hope they’ll clear up soon!

Thanks, Margaret! 😀 I don’t actually mind the cold either. I’d rather be cold than hot. I do prefer spring and fall, though, because the temperature’s nice and moderate. I wish both of those seasons lasted longer (at least in my neck of the woods). I also crave the sun. I have such a hard time with overcast gloomy days.

It would be nice to enjoy our spring crops longer. Sorry you can’t get spinach to grow. I’ve never tried. I know my parents had some in one of our gardens but that was when I was a kid.

Wow, that’s a heck of an infection! Hope they can figure out something soon.

I can’t remember if I ever read The Count of Monte Cristo… don’t think I tried that one. Books from that period can be interminable!

Thanks, Rachel! 😀 I hope so too. I do also feel bad for his wives. I wish they could’ve had better lives outside of Henry VIII. I’m glad most of our world isn’t like that anymore. And, I’m still fascinated with the history.

I hope you are able to get the antibiotics soon and they help to get rid of the infections completely! I am sorry you’ve been so miserable–and for so long! I hope you are enjoying This Spells Love. I enjoyed reading The Count of Monte Cristo the year before last. I read the unabridged version. There was only one section I wish had been shorter. My husband finally finished it this past month. He had started reading it around the same time I did, but he had less patience with it than I did, I think.

I am not as taken with Storygraph as you are and haven’t bothered to clean up the years of imported books I added when I joined the year before last. Maybe someday. About the only feature I like is the mood chart. I keep Storygraph around because of it. I am glad it is working well for you though! I know a lot of people prefer it to Goodreads. I like that it’s not tied to Amazon.

I hope you have a great week!

Thank you! 😀 I hope to hear from my doctor soon.

So far, I am enjoying THIS SPELLS LOVE. I have decided to listen to the unabridged audio of Count of Monte Cristo. Reading it was putting me to sleep. The audio is fantastic, though, and I think I’ll really enjoy it. 😀

I’m sorry you don’t like StoryGraph as much as I do. My BFF hates it too. She hates all the scrolling. There are things I wish were different, but I do like the white space it has. It doesn’t feel as clunky to me. To each our own, right?
