Book Blogger Hop #9

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Jennifer at Crazy-for-Books in March 2010. As of February 2013, it’s hosted by Billy at Coffee Addicted Writer.
Today’s Question(s) is …

How long have you gone without reading?

My Answer(s) is …

If I don’t count the length between books when I was younger, then about three months. When I was a kid / teenager, I hated reading. I read maybe one book a year, if that.

Even when I’m in a reading slump now, I usually still want to pick up a book every three months. I was in a slump last year and so I read by listening to audiobooks while I driving or laying in bed.

What about you? How long is the longest you’ve ever gone without reading?

I have a friend who also didn’t want to read while she was pregnant. She said a couple of weeks after the delivery, her desire to read came back. Hormones, am I right?!

When my children were born and I was working full-time, I didn’t read for a couple of years. I don’t know how I managed that. I also didn’t watch much TV or any films. When people ask if I’ve seen a certain movie, if it’s between the years of 1986-1992, I probably haven’t.

I hadn’t thought of audiobooks for a slump. I don’t listen to too many audiobooks so that may be why. Something to consider for next time.

I have never really tracked the length of time of my not reading so my best guess is a couple or so days. Maybe at most a week. Even if it’s just picking up a poetry book or reading a short story or a page or paragraph from a novel I am trying to get through, I read most days, even when I’m in a slump or too too busy or tired to fit much reading in. I get antsy when I go without reading for too long.

My reading slowed way down right after my daughter was born. My blogging too. I had post-partum depression/anxiety and that was probably a big part of it. I may have gone longer without reading during that time or just stretched out the books because it took me longer to get through them–I’m not sure. That time is all a blur.

I hope you have a great weekend!

I’m always interested to find other readers who didn’t like reading when they were young. It seems most readers have loved reading their entire life. We’re definitely a small minority. 😀
