Have you ever loved a book that everyone else hated or hated a book that everyone else loved?
My Answer(s) is …
Yes. I love Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, especially BREAKING DAWN. I know I’m not the only one but since it’s practically in fashion now to hate the series, I had to mention it.
I loathe ANIMAL FARM by George Orwell. I think it’s boring and I hate that he used animals. I also dislike satire in general. I also loathe THE CATCHER IN THE RYE by JD Salinger because there’s absolutely no point to the story. And, I despise both ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND and THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS by Lewis Carroll because the stories are discombobulated nonsense.
What about you? Have you ever loved or hated a book that everyone else hated or loved?
The fact is that there are very few books I hate (unless the writing is awful); I can usually find something in them to like. Every book that I’ve liked has people who agree with me and others who disagree. Our most disliked book in BC has been “Frog Music” which gets excellent reviews from some on Amazon. The book I’m reading now “Rabbit Hutch” won’t be among my favorites, but it may be a good discussion book. Sometimes that improves my feelings about the book.
I totally get that you can usually find something in each book to like. I’m usually the same. There have only been 9 books that I say I can’t, like the four above. I tried, though. I really did try, lol.
I love the Twilight Saga and also Midnight Sun. I didn’t realise that it was a thing not to like it – I probably blank it out due to disbelief 😂
I did quite like Alice In Wonderland 😂 I haven’t read the other two.

I think hating Twilight is definitely a thing where I live. I had a whole friend group that adored it. We all went to the Forks together and then the movies came out. I think only three out of 25 of us still like the series. The movie sucked in a lot of new fans, but it turned a lot of fans against the series.
Twilight…I read it at the time and just thought eh. It’s okay, but then everyone else started getting into it and I was like you guys want some other really good YA Vampire recs? I got a TON! Then I still shudder thinking of it but when I heard someone say something to the fact that The Vampire Diaries was trying to hard to be like Twilight I about lost my $#*t because TVD published loooong before Twilight. So yeah…I’ve some bad memories of Twilight because of that! Lol.
When it comes to the classics I rarely found ones I liked. I agree with you about The Catcher in the Rye having no point! But then I felt like that about a lot of those classics and everyone else still loved them. It was lost on me! The only one I ever did like was The Count of Monte Cristo and I basically just loved Dante’s long plot for revenge! It was beautiful! Lol. I did like Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, mainly because it was just nonsense…or was it…a dream?? Lol! It was one I remember re-reading a lot in grade school because my teacher had a copy of it in his classroom library. I remember just wanting to read it because it was a fairy tale and the book was a hardcover and looked really cool, despite it being a worn beat up old cover! He gave it to me to keep the next year, it was just on my desk one morning! I still have it too…sadly it’s in my storage unit while I house hunt!

I totally get your frustrations with Twilight fans dissing on The Vampire Diaries because they’re too similar. I’d always rolls my eyes because I knew TVD were published more than a decade before. People are just ignorant and stupid, lol.
I haven’t read The Count of Monte Cristo. I’d like to. I enjoyed the movie with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce. That’s a really cool story about your Alice book. Things like that always make a difference in our lives. 😀

I feel like I’m one of the few people who liked THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. I should have used that one as a book I liked but others hate. LOL
I didn’t love the Twilight series, but they were very compelling reads, and I couldn’t put them down. I can see the draw and why so many love it. I also get some of the criticism though. And as much as I do not like the movies, I keep rewatching them. So there’s that.
I haven’t read Lewis Carroll. Maybe someday. I have heard they are a bit out there so am not in a rush.

I do understand the criticisms for Twilight. They just never bothered me while reading the series. The story gripped me from the first page and turned me into the reader I am now. 😀

The whole Twilight hate really bothers me. Just like you said, that it’s in fashion now. And people who loved it are scared to admit it now. I don’t get it. People are weird. LOL.
People are weird. I don’t mind that people hate or love it. I just wish people who love it didn’t have to be apologetic about it, like we have weird taste or something.

I also loved Twilight! And so many of my students became readers of it, so all the haters can talk about how it is poorly written. But to me, any book that grabs people and they can’t put it down is well written in my book. I did not like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. Also just tried an Emily Henry audiobook, and maybe it wasn’t the right one, but it was called Book Lovers I think, which should be perfect for me, but I DNFed. I will still try another of her books before I completely give up on her though!

I’m sorry you didn’t like BOOK LOVERS. I just finished that one and adored it. I did read it on Kindle, though, so maybe the audio book was the problem.
