My Thoughts

DAWN OF THE NORTH was everything I wanted in this third story and more. I loved that we got POVs from more characters. I loved seeing Kass’ country, learning more about his people and their magic, and learning more about him as well. I loved seeing Saga become more confident in herself. I loved seeing the bloodline gift through Silla and see how that affected Myrkur and his scheming. I’m so excited to see where the next installment will take us in this journey. I’m especially curious to see how Silla and Saga’s relationship may change now that they’re together.

My Thoughts

When I read DIVINE RIVALS and RUTHLESS VOWS, I really wanted to learn more about the gods and their magic system. I’m so glad Ross decided to write WILD REVERENCE as a prequel from the POV of one of those gods. I loved spending time in the Under and Skyward Realms. I also loved seeing the Mortal Realm from a god’s perspective. Matilda was a fantastic character to give us the insight we wanted. I loved watching her grow into her powers, gaining confidence, and kicking ass. I especially enjoyed witnessing her life with and love for Vincent.

My Thoughts

I didn’t realize BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL was a vampire story going in. That was a fun discovery. I enjoyed the stories of each of the women. Although, Alice was my favorite because I related to her more than the other two. I wasn’t as interested in or drawn to the sapphic relationships as I was the other aspects of the story. However, I think these relationships were the best way to tell the story Schwab wanted to tell.

My Thoughts

Wow! That ending! I need book 2 now! At least I only have to wait until October for it to come out. I loved HALF CITY so much! I loved the dark academia setting, the Shadowhunter feel to the story, and the characters. I’m so interested to see what happens next, especially to Viv and Reid. Is Reid really reformed? I’m starting to get the sense that he might not be. I hope we get to meet the elusive elders in the next installment and we get to find out who the High Thane is. I’m so so curious if my hunches are right.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed ROOTS OF DARKNESS. I’m glad we got to see what happened to the rest of the Blood Axe Crew after Rey left to save Silla from Jonas. I enjoyed being in Hekla’s head, witnessing her badassery and even her doubt. I liked her connection with Eyvind and look forward, hopefully, to seeing them resolve their conflict in future Ashen series books or another novella. I hope we find out what’s causing the mist since the novella just kind of left us there hanging after the immediate threat was neutralized.
