My Thoughts

I read the STEMinist Novellas out of order and started with the third one first. Thankfully, you can read these in any order.

I loved Below Zero and I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy Under One Roof as much, but I did. I loved both Liam and Mara. I loved the forced proximity trope, their chemistry, and banter. It was a fun read. I still want more! (This is why I don’t read short stories very often.)

Below ZeroTitle: Below Zero
Author: Ali Hazelwood
Series: STEMinist #3
Genre: Romance
Format: Audio
Pages: 112
Length: 3h 42m
Narrator: Savannah Peachwood
Source: Library
Reason: Just Because
Rating:
Romance Rating: 3.5 Flames

My Thoughts

I want more! I loved Hannah and Ian, and their story. I loved the setting and the idea of him rescuing her. I wish there was more to their story and relationship. Since this was a short story, Hazelwood did a great job of sharing the most important parts.

Also, I didn’t realize Below Zero was the third book in a novella series until after I read it. Hopefully, they can be read out of order.

The MemoTitle: The Memo
Author: Rachel Dodes, Lauren Mechling
Genre: Science Fiction
Format: Audio
Pages: 336
Length: 9h 22m
Narrator: Anna Caputo
Source: Library
Reason: Just Because
Rating:
Romance Rating: 0.5 Flames

My Thoughts

Despite being disappointed that The Memo isn’t a romance (the audiobook was categorized improperly at my library), I thought this story and the execution were interesting. I also like the hopeful and open ending. The story reminded me of The Midnight Library, just much less profound.

A Killing ColdTitle: A Killing Cold
Author: Kate Alice Marshall
Genre: Thriller
Format: Hard Cover
Pages: 304
Source: Owned
Reason: Book of the Month
Rating:
Romance Rating: 1.5 Flames

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed A Killing Cold. It was suspenseful and the cast of characters made for an intriguing tale.

I loved the setting and the unraveling of the story one thread at a time. The ending was a bit disappointing because I needed more comeuppance but it didn’t ruin the book for me.

Hello BeautifulTitle: Hello Beautiful
Author: Ann Napolitano
Genre: Historical Fiction
Format: Audio
Pages: 383
Length: 15h 6m
Narrator: Maura Tierney
Source: Library
Reason: Book Club
Rating:
Romance Rating: 1.5 Flames

My Thoughts

Hello Beautiful is a touching story about love, loss, depression, betrayal, forgiveness, and second chances. Even though I’m not a huge fan of Little Women, I liked how Napolitano used it to shape the Padavano sisters. (And, in this case, Laurie ended up with the right sister.)

This book will definitely give my book club a lot to discuss. Also, while I didn’t mind the audio for the most part, there were times that I thought the narrator sounded robotic and with no emotion in her voice.
