Top Ten Tuesday #15

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Books I Put on my TBR Because the Covers are Purple

This week’s prompt is “Books with [___] on the Cover” and it comes with instructions. They are: Pick a thing (a color, an item, a place, an animal, a scripty font, a sexy person, etc.) and share covers that have that thing on the cover.

I’ll admit I often choose to read books based solely on how much the cover appeals to me. The cover’s the reason I first pick up the book to read the synopsis, getting the author’s foot in the door, so to speak.

Here are my top ten books I’m looking forward to reading (or I put on my TBR) because they have purple covers:

A couple of these books have been on my TBR for more than a decade. I’ll get to them someday … I hope, lol. Too many books, not enough time. Am I right? If you’ve read any of these books, please tell me which one I should read first in the comments.

I also want to share three books with purple covers I’ve already read and adored. They are:

I’m a sucker for purple and a gorgeous cover.

What about you? Which books with [___] on the cover are on your list this week?

I don’t think of colors in the sense of organizing my library by color. But, certain colors definitely draw me in more than others and purple’s one of them since it’s my favorite color. I used Goodreads to help me come up with my list. I already had these on my To Read list, I just went to the “Cover View” and chose my favorites.

I did a top ten purple covers sometime last year, I don’t think it’s that common so really makes a book stand out. I think my TBR would be a lot smaller if I wasn’t swayed by pretty covers so much…

I think you’re right. Purple is rare as the main color on the cover. I have over 1200 books on my TBR and I only had 20-ish books with purple covers. My TBR would definitely be a lot smaller if I wasn’t swayed my pretty covers, lol.

Thanks, Rae! 💜 I’m excited to see what color your chose! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed The Bone Witch series. I’m very excited to read it at some point.

I’ve heard great things about Odd Thomas. I’m very excited to read the series. I’m very excited to read something by Dean Koontz period. And, yes, purple is so inviting. That’s what I love about it. 🙂

Thank you! I love seeing them all together too. I made a collage for my Instagram feed and the purples are just so pretty together. I also love The Sound of Stars cover. It’s gorgeous. The Bone Witch is also lovely. It’s so mysterious and intriguing.

I love a purple cover! I read The Truth About Alice last year, after *ages* on my TBR, and the cover was a big part of the reason I wanted to in the first place.

These are pretty covers! I’ve only read The Truth About Alice and The Dark Divine. I gave 4 stars to both. I added Horror Hotel and Lost and Found in Paris to my TBR!

To be honest, I never look much at covers, but turn immediately to the synopsis on the inside cover to see if it intrigues me. Then I read the first couple pages of the book to try to gauge the level of writing. It’s strange because I’m a very visual person so you would think that I would pay more attention to the artwork. I have loved many quotes from “Odd Thomas” but never read it. Perhaps I should!

I used to not care about covers when they were ugly and had nothing really to do with the book, lol. But, when I started reading YA about 14 years ago, I started paying attention to the covers and really fell in love with them. I know a lot of the covers still have nothing to do with the book, but at least they’re pretty now.

You totally should read Odd Thomas. I know I should as well. I even already own the first novel in the series.

Such lovely covers! I love the different shades of purple. I’ve only read one of the books from your list and did not care for it, sadly. I do want to read several of the others though and have them on my TBR.
