“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” JK Rowling
I’m the youngest of seven children. I have five sisters and one brother. I also have 17 nieces, 13 nephews, 11 great-nieces, seven great-nephews, and two great-nieces or -nephews on the way.
My mom passed away in May 2013 and it’s still hard for me to realize she’s not a phone call away anymore.
While I was in elementary school, I had the opportunity to be in a Spanish Immersion program for four years. The only time I was allowed to speak English was during recess, gym class, and when I learned how to read. Because of this opportunity, I have a love for languages. I have taken classes in French, Russian, Japanese, and German. Out of all the languages I’ve studied, Japanese is my favorite. I love to write using the Japanese writing systems (i.e., ひらがな hiragana, カタカナ katakana, and 漢字 kanji) and I love to speak the language. Getting the chance to visit Japan would be a dream come true.
One of my dear friends taught me how to crochet in 2000. I love it and I love to create beautiful things. Since the time my friend taught me how to crochet, I’ve also learned how to knit. I don’t knit as often as I crochet, but I still enjoy it.
I used to hate reading. I avoided it at all costs, and I can count the number of books I read in high school on one hand, possibly two. It wasn’t until I read the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling that I started to enjoy reading. The true catalyst for my love of reading was the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, which I first read in June 2007. Thanks to the wonderful worlds both Rowling and Meyer created, I now enjoy reading more than any of my other hobbies. I enjoy reading books in the fantasy, YA romance, science fiction, historical fiction, mystery, thriller, and adventure genres. However, I’m usually willing to try anything, except textbooks.
I’m a hard-core movie fan. I love watching them on the big screen or at home. I’m a fan of most genres. I’m usually not a huge fan of book-to-movie adaptations because somehow the movie is always disappointing. However, because of those rare gems, I’ll watch most book-to-movie adaptations anyway. I also adore movie scores and have ever since I was a teen. Until I met Corey, I almost exclusively listened to movie scores and show-tunes.
I’ve been married to Corey since March 1998. We don’t have any kids. We have cats. Their names are Dax, Eddy, and Izzy. Snowball, Cassie, Cloe, and Tigger were also a part of our family, but they’ve passed away and we miss them dearly.
My favorite books are Dune, the Harry Potter series, the Twilight Saga, the Infernal Devices trilogy, the Mortal Instruments series, The Hunger Games trilogy, Anna and the French Kiss, the Graceling Realms trilogy, the Everneath trilogy, The Night Circus, Stitching Snow, Not in the Script, My Lady Jane, The Dark Divine trilogy, You Are Special, and Fox in Socks.
My favorite bands are Muse, Coldplay, Green Day, Lady Gaga, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Weezer, and New Kids on the Block. I also love Enya and Michael Crawford. And, I love listening to my brother-in-law, Brett Raymond.
As I’ve already said, I love movie scores. My favorite composers are John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, and Danny Elfman.
