About Jenni Elyse
Hi, welcome to my blog! I’m Jenni Elyse, but you can call me Jenni. I’m queer. I actually identify as a heteroromantic gay person. My pronouns are she/her. I’m wife to Corey and cat mom to Dax and Izzy. Corey and I’ve been married since March 1998. We live in Utah, USA.
I’m a seeker of all things purple, I love animals especially cats and llamas , and I’m a member of the Harry Potter , How to Train Your Dragon, Futurama, Star Wars , Twilight, and Zelda fandoms.
I sometimes talk about mental illness in my blog posts. I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I was diagnosed with BPD in June 2020. This means my emotions are more extreme than the general population. I can go from feeling really happy to suddenly feeling the lowest I’ve ever felt all within a matter of minutes. People with BPD are often misdiagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. However, the ups and downs with Bipolar Disorder last longer, usually weeks at a time, whereas the ups and downs with BPD only last for hours, maybe days.
When I’m not actively engaging in short-term pleasant events and taking action steps toward my values (compasses that help me build a life worth living), I’m less able to regulate my emotions and not act on ineffective urges (e.g. self-harm, rage quit a desired activity, damage a positive relationship). I enjoy reading; taking bubble baths; drinking herbal tea or hot chocolate; drawing on my iPad; playing my Switch; watching movies; dyeing my hair; crafting, mostly in the form of crocheting and knitting; listening to music; and spending time with my husband, cats, and friends.
My favorite books are Dune, the Harry Potter series, the Twilight Saga, the Infernal Devices trilogy, the Mortal Instruments series, The Hunger Games trilogy, Anna and the French Kiss, the Graceling Realms series, the Winternight trilogy, Cinder, The Night Circus, Anxious People, Into the Dark trilogy, the Everneath trilogy, Throne of Glass, Defy trilogy, Stitching Snow, Not in the Script, My Lady Jane, Blackmoore, Edenbrooke, The Flatshare, Dear Emmie Blue, The Dark Divine trilogy, You Are Special, and Fox in Socks.
My favorite bands are Queen, Muse, twenty øne piløts, Lady Gaga, Weezer, New Kids on the Block, Coldplay, Green Day, System of a Down, and Linkin Park. I also love Enya and Michael Crawford.
I listen to K-pop and my favorite bands are GOT7, TXT, BTS, Super Junior, EXO, and SHINee.
I love movie scores. My favorite composers are John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Danny Elfman, and James Newton Howard.
A picture is worth a thousand words and here are 15 of them.
Just in case you don’t know who any of these actors are: (first, left-right) Tom Hiddleston, Matt Bomer, Ewan McGregor, James McAvoy, and Robert Downey Jr.; (second, left-right) Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Sam Claflin, Henry Cavill, and Aidan Turner; (third, left-right) Matthew Goode, Zachary Levi, Chris Evans, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Henry Golding.
My all-time favorite movies are the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. I think they’re brilliant in every way! (Toothless is my patronus and/or dæmon. Take your pick depending on your fandom. ) I Star Wars.
I adore every single movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and frequently have MCU marathons with Corey.
I also love the Back to the Future trilogy, the Indiana Jones series, the Men in Black series, the Mission: Impossible series, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the new Star Trek trilogy, Clue, Down with Love, The Emperor’s New Groove, Far and Away, Galaxy Quest, Jurassic Park, Lilo & Stitch, Moulin Rouge, So I Married an Axe Murderer, and Wild Hearts Can’t be Broken.
Favorite TV Shows
My current favorite TV shows are The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Nancy Drew, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, The Orville, His Dark Materials, Motherland, Bridgerton, Disenchantment, Lego Masters, and last but not least any Disney+ MCU show. I’m addicted to cooking competition shows much to Corey’s chagrin. Some of my favorites are MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, Hell’s Kitchen, Food Network’s Baking Championships, and Zumbo’s Just Desserts.
I’m still in mourning over the end of White Collar and New Girl. I Supernatural and I was sad to see it end, but I feel like it had a good run and a good ending. I’m obsessed with LOST and its characters and make my way through the series every few years. I also think How I Met Your Mother is one of the best sitcoms ever made and I enjoy binge-watching it with Corey.
Above all, I’m a fan of Futurama and I was part of the Internet campaign to bring it back. Again… and, we did. Thanks, Hulu!
