You Know it’s Cold When

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a cold person.  I get hot so easily.  I have always advocated that it’s better to be too cold than too hot because you can always put more on to warm up and you can only take off so much to cool down.

At work, I’m underneath an air vent.  Not only does this air vent gush out cold air all year around, it also gushes out the air full blast. 8O It’s ridiculous!  I’ve never been so cold in all my life!

On a typical day, you can find me wrapped in my slanket trying to keep warm.  On some days, I’m so cold that my slanket isn’t enough.  On those days, I’m not only wrapped in my slanket, but I’m also wearing a sweater, a coat, or both.

I feel like I work in the Arctic.  My overall body temperature is changing because I’m starting to feel cold in other places too.  I didn’t like being a hot person, but I don’t like being a cold person either.  Isn’t there a middle ground?

  1. Yeah, it’s really bad. On very rare occasions, I don’t have to wear anything extra. I’m hoping it will warm up in here with the weather because I don’t want to keep bringing my winter coat to work. ;)

  2. When I was working for Flying J, I was in the (almost) same situation. I had two (2) space heaters that I had working at full blast ALL year round. There was no winning there. If you find the middle ground, please let me know!

  3. Hahaha! That’s how I feel a lot of the time. Mostly it’s my feet and hands that are freezing, I think its because of poor circulation.

  4. Jen – My work doesn’t allow space heaters because they trip the breakers and they’re considered fire hazards. If I do find a middle ground, I’ll let you know.

Rebecca – Thanks! My co-workers make fun of me on a daily basis. I don’t let it get to me, though, because I’m the one who is comfortably work while they’re all freezing to death.

Kayla – My hands and feet suffer greatly because of the Arctic breeze that blows on me. They’re the only things I can’t warm up no matter what I do since typing with gloves on doesn’t work very well. I wonder how Strongbad does it. ;)

  5. I think you need workmen’s comp! I would be HATING life if I had to work in that environment! Once in a blue moon am I ever warm enough. And church! I go to church in the heat of the summer and freeze my little toes off. What’s up with that? I think it is all those men in their dark suits and big ol’ wingtip shoes.

  6. Being the hot blooded person that I am, I would love a cool breeze blowing on me! But a brisk arctic wind, now that’s another story! I agree about your slanket sexiness! Do you think you could sneak in a heating pad? They couldn’t possibly object to a hot water bottle, you could warm it in the microwave, over and over and over! Good Luck! I’ll be sending you warm thoughts!

  7. Alayna – Ha ha! Yeah, you definitely quit over being cold. ;)

Deon – I think I deserve worker’s comp too! I have told my boss a number of times that I’m going to go on strike until I can move my fingers to type. Apparently, one person isn’t much of a threat.

Beth – I love cool breezes too, but like you said not a brisk, arctic wind. I could take a heating pad, but Corey and I only have one and I don’t want it away from home. I guess I could buy another one….

  8. We need to hook up an electric charge that will shock Brent when he tries to move the thermostat. I’m convinced that job 1 is to get rid of his constant temperature meddling.

  9. Erin – Nope, it doesn’t let you choose the monster guy. It assigns one to you if you don’t have a gravatar for your e-mail address. I like the idea of shocking Brent. That would be awesome! :D

  10. Yes, it is a very cold there. Ah, those were the days. Good times in that freezing place. Why oh why do they run the air in the winter. I have always wondered that.
