Ever since Corey and I started going to a family ward a little over a year ago, I’ve had a hard time going to church regularly. I was out of my comfort zone, I only knew a couple of families, and I got out of the habit of going. (I know by not going that I’m creating a paradox because I’d meet people and take care of the excuse of not knowing many people if I went more regularly.) Unfortunately, this has carried over to our new ward. (Please don’t lay a guilt trip on me for not going to church. I already know I should go and I’m working through my hangups.)
Anyway, my neighbor decided to get me involved a little bit by dropping off an invitation to a Twilight movie party some of the women in the ward were having. She asked me, “Do you like Twilight?” I kind of chuckled a little and asked, “Does going to Forks last summer with a bunch of women I met on the Twilight Lexicon count as liking Twilight?” After a moment of speechlessness, she said, “Forks is a real town!”

We were supposed to bring a Twilight-inspired treat. I couldn’t think of anything extremely clever, so I ended up just bringing animal crackers. The food that everyone else brought was very creative and yummy. (I’ll have to duplicate some of their ideas for a future party.) Unfortunately, I didn’t eat that much since it would’ve killed my calorie intake for the day. The things we do to be/get healthy!
I wore my Forks sweatshirt and my “What happens in Forks stays in Forks” shirt to the party. A few of the women asked me where I got my sweatshirt and I told them in Forks. They were excited that I’d been there and asked a little about the real area. They were pretty excited to find out that La Push and Port Angeles were real towns too.
They asked me questions about my adventures, including meeting Stephenie Meyer at the signings. They even asked me if I was a part of the TwilightMoms group. I told them that my friends and I are kind of rivals with the TwilightMoms because we’re always trying to one-up each other at Stephenie Meyer/Twilight events.
Overall, I feel like I talked too much and I hope they don’t hold it against me. It was also a little weird being at a Twilight party without my friends, but I still had fun. I’m glad my neighbor Emily decided to invite me and that I had a chance to meet as many women as I did. I had seen some of them at church, but I hadn’t really “met” any of them, except my two neighbors, before the party.
As far as the movie itself, this was only the second time I’ve seen it. And, after watching it the second time, I’ve decided that I’m not in as much awe as I was when I first saw it. The initial feeling of seeing the characters and the general story come to life on screen has worn off.
I still enjoyed the movie. However, there are definitely parts that I detest and wish would’ve been done differently and/or better. Yet, there are parts that I absolutely love, especially those scenes with Billy Burke in it. I loved his portrayal of Charlie.
In conclusion, I hope the new director for New Moon can make it better than Twilight. And, for those of you who have only seen the movie, don’t judge the book by its movie. As Alice (my friend not the character) would say, “Read the damn books!” I promise they’re a lot better!

Good job getting out of your comfort zone and going to the party! I think that was really nice of your neighbor to invite you! I’ve been on vacation, so I forgot to tell you and Corey “Happy 11th Anniversary”! I can’t believe it has already been 11 years!!!
I’m glad that I’m not the only freaky Twilight fan that hated the movie. My dad called on Saturday to see if I had my copy of the movie and he was very surprised that I wasn’t planning on buying it.
Looks like a fun party. Meeting new people can be so fun.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who ditches church when not totally comfortable. Sounds like the Twilight party was fun.
Haha, yes — Twilight parties just aren’t the same without the SLTA, but I’m making do. I’m sure you didn’t talk to much. I mean, someone has to make up for those of us who don’t say enough! Good luck with your new ward!
I’m really hoping that the new director does better with New Moon. Everything I didn’t like about the first movie can be blamed on what I consider pretty bad directing.
But, yeah, I still kinda love it.
I’m glad you had fun and very proud of you for going out of your comfort zone. I’m sure they loved you, just like the rest of us! What were the crazy treats? I’m curious.
I agree, movies are never as good as the books. However, I liked it enough because it gave me the same feeling I had when reading it (only scaled-down). In fact, I’m going to read them again, just because I can.
So glad that you were brushing off your expertise. I’m shocked none of them knew the geographic locations were real. Geez…
There was dog chow which was muddy buddies with a dog-bone-shaped peanut butter cookie, jelly-filled (red) sugar cookies with puncture marks in them, dogs in a blanket, mushroom ravioli (well, cheese ravioli with mushrooms on top), and the cups were covered with red cornstarch to make it look like blood dripping on them. It was pretty cool.
Yeah, I’ll read the books again too. I just have so many that I want to read right now, I keep pushing them and Harry Potter aside.
So for never reading the books I thought the movie was cute. It definitely was cheesy in parts Edward’s sparkles and the popular kids just seemed weird to me, but it made me want to read the books, so I might want to borrow them from you.
Meagan, I’m so glad you want to read the books now!
They’re so good and I think you’ll like them. I don’t lend my books out anymore, though, because they’re signed by Stephenie Meyer. I hope you understand.
What a fun group to go play with! I’m with ya on the movie. (I’m not buying it.) Glad you got to meet so many people!
you make me laugh! i love that you went to Forks! i should make jarron take me since we live in WA now…!
Hey! I went to a Twilight party the night it was released at a girls house in my ward, too. We had so much fun! I won a special prize for the Twilight trivia game we played. I miss you!
Dani, you should totally go! It’s so pretty there. If I could, I would live there. Corey, however, wouldn’t.
I miss you too, Angie!
