Reading and Blogging Goals

Last year, I got into a serious reading and blogging slump. I just didn’t have any motivation to read. And, while I wanted to blog, I ran out of things to say. I feel kind of stupid for giving up on my mental illness idea so quickly, but I don’t think I would’ve kept blogging if I hadn’t just come back to what I know. I’d rather keep blogging than be revolutionary. Anyway, I want to get out of both of these slumps and I think having some goals will help me do that.

Reading Goals

Last year, I planned to:

  • Read at least 50 books; I read 24.
  • Read the Gordon B. Hinckley manual and finish the Howard W. Hunter manual; I read both.
  • Read The Book of Mormon; I started it in April and got to Words of Mormon.

At least I accomplished one of my goals. And, with my slump, I say 24 books is pretty good because it’s more than a lot of people read in one year, but I obviously failed at my goals. 😂 I really want to read 50 books in a year and every year I tell myself I’m going to do it, something happens to thwart my attempts. I’m not giving up on reading 50 books in a year, but it’s not going to be my focus this year.

In 2018, I want to:

  • Read at least 36 books
  • Participate in the Debut Author Challenge (read at least 3 books)
  • Participate in the Listopia Challenge for PBT Goodreads group (read 7 books)
  • Finish the Joseph Smith manual
  • Finish The Book of Mormon
  • Read Worth the Wrestle by Sheri Dew

I hope if I don’t feel too pressured to read a lot of books, I won’t go further into my slump. I’ve also decided if I’m having a hard time getting into a book, I’m going to stop reading it. I may or may not choose to pick it up again at a later time since it could just be my mood at the time.

I’m also going to read what I want when I want. I’m not going to be dictated by release dates, review schedules, or even my book club. If the book just doesn’t sound interesting to me at that particular time, I’m not going to force myself to read it. This includes these two challenges I’ve signed up for. I think they will be fun and I want to participate, but if they turn out to be a chore, they will be the first things to go.

Blogging Goals

I’m back to blogging mostly about books, which is fine with me. It’s my one true passion so I should have plenty to say.

I want to comment more. One of the things I love about blogging is the interaction I have with other bloggers. I want to do more discussion posts and features. Those are the posts I love to comment on because of the natural interaction they create and I want to create that type of an atmosphere on my blog.

I think a lot of these goals, especially the latter two reading goals, will help me get out of my slumps, at least I hope so.

What types of reading and blogging goals have you set for the new year if any?

My main goal is just to continue blogging. I fell into a bit of a slump myself last year and this year I have plans that will most likely prevent an every day post or perhaps even every week. But I refuse to give it up completely! I’m determined that I will figure out how to manage my daily life and fit blogging in there as often as I can. As well as reading! Books have always been a huge part of my life and I’m not planning on letting new adventures change that. 🙂

Good luck with your goals! It seems wise that you set your total books read lower, that way maybe you can exceed it! Now wouldn’t that be awesome. 🙂

I hope you’re able to keep blogging. I like reading your blog and I’ve missed you when you’ve been gone.

Thanks! I think it’s a good idea too, but I’ll be honest, I still have a higher number in mind, lol.
