A few days ago in my post Reflections, I talked about needing, no wanting, to make some changes. Well, this year, instead of focusing on what I didn’t accomplish in 2012, I’m focusing on what I want to accomplish in 2013.
In 2013, I know I need to focus on a couple of things: 1) keeping my commitments to myself and 2) doing hard things even when I don’t want to. These are the two obstacles I face on a daily basis and I know not following through with my commitments and taking the easy, more familiar, paths are my downfall.
To help me focus on overcoming these obstacles, I plan to:
- Keep my daily commitments to myself
- Get up at 6:30 am every day, even on the weekends
- Go to work, on weekdays, unless I’ve planned a day off ahead of time
- Exercise (cardio or strength training)
- Eat healthy and stay under my calorie limit
- Stop using all electronics by 7:30 pm
- Read my scriptures
- Say my prayers on my knees
- Go to bed by 10:00 pm
- Strive to become a better, healthier me by accomplishing the physical, emotional, and spiritual goals I’ve set forth on this blog/post
- Physical Health
- Develop a healthy sleeping pattern
- Eat healthy
- Exercise dialy
- Lose 50 pounds
- Emotional Health
- Continue to see my counselor
- Attend 12-step group regularly
- Work with a sponsor to recognize my codependent tendencies in everyday life
- Take responsibility for my actions
- Develop boundaries and hold in everyday life
- Keep my commitments
- Spiritual Health
- Go to church every single week
- Go to the temple at least once a month
- Read my scriptures daily
- Say my morning and evening prayers on my knees
- Have a prayer in my heart throughout the entire day
- Physical Health
This may seem like a lot of goals, but they all go hand-in-hand. As I do one, the others will fall into place naturally. I’ll remember my mantra: “I’m striving for progress not perfection.” I know I’ll make mistakes and I know I’ll cave under pressure every now and then. But, the important thing to remember is what I do with those mistakes and how I respond to them. As long as I’m determined to better myself, I can’t fail. Here’s to making the next year successful!

Happy New Year! Great goals!
Did you see that I got the Weekend Cooking folks to help me make a post about books to support healthy eating resolutions? It’s here: http://www.joyweesemoll.com/2012/12/29/weekend-cooking-books-to-support-new-years-resolutions/
Thank you! You too!
And, no I didn’t. I haven’t had a chance to be online much the past few days. I’ll have to take a look.
I need to become a morning person. I mean, horribly so. That’s definitely one of my resolutions. Have you read Chalene Johnson’s “PUSH” novel? It’s all about setting goals and breaking them down (although it looks like you’ve done a great job of that already!). I’m really enjoying it. Not necessarily NEW information but it remotivates me to follow through.
I haven’t read Push. I’ll have to check it out. I don’t read many self-help books, but I think it’d be good for me too.
“I’m striving for progress not perfection.” That’s a beautiful way of looking at it. I’m working toward some personal goals too–changing the way I think about things from negative to positive and also some fun ones to make life more enjoyable. You are going to do great! These are great goals. ^_^
Thanks! It helps me know that it’s okay to make mistakes; it’s just a matter of learning from them and improving.
Good luck with your own goals!
good luck with all your goals. I hope most importantly that you don’t become discouraged because I know I always do and it makes everything so hard. I do want to know why on earth you want to get up THAT early? I don’t know your work schedule so maybe that explains it but healthy or not I would never choose to get up that early. We’ll have to discuss in person.
Ha ha! Yeah, it is quite early. Basically, it’s to help discipline myself. I usually stay in bed until the last possible minute, sometimes even longer making myself and others (usually Corey) late.
Good luck!!!!!
Thank you!
You have some fantastic goals here. Good luck with achieving and keeping them all
Thank you! I appreciate that!
