While I was crocheting the aminekos for my nieces last year, Corey and I went over to our friends’ to watch their kids. Jack, their oldest, was so interested in what I was doing. He thought it was so cool that I could “knit” a cat and he kept telling me that he’d like a green one. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to make him, his little sister, and his little brother one until now. (I finished them yesterday after working on them for a little over a week.)

Sheridan’s is the pink one, Jack’s is of course the green one, and Henry’s is the blue one. Jack’s is my favorite of the bunch. I just like the color and how he turned out.
I can’t wait to give the kids their cat. I hope they’ll like them and be able to enjoy them for many years to come. I also can’t wait to hear what each of the kids will name their cat.
Just like with the ones I made last year, I can see every flaw, but I’m trying to look at them as God would His children. I’m trying to realize the flaws give each one their own personality and character even though it’s against my perfectionist nature to like something I’ve made that’s not perfect. I guess it’s a good thing that I have a hobby like this because it helps challenge my way of thinking that everything needs to be perfect.

So cool. I really want to learn how to do this. The only directions that I can find are in Japanese. Can you help me find a beginner pattern that will help. I know how to crochet and knit so I don’t think it should be too hard.
I love all three and just remember – they are going to see any flaw. They are just going to fall in love, unconditionally.
The English version of the pattern is here. It took me a while to find it too. I made a couple of modifications, though. In the pattern, the feet are only 24 rounds and I’ve always made them with 30 rounds. Otherwise, the legs are way too short. And, I use safety eyes and noses instead of stitching them on. I like the way it looks better.
PS–This site has a great tutorial for creating the “magic” ring. Just scroll down until you see the video for the magic ring.
Thank you! I’ll definitely check it out. I’d love to make some for the babies.
You’re welcome! Let me know if you have any questions.
One more question and then I’ll stop bugging you… Maybe…
What size hook are you using and what type of yarn or brand. Please. Love you.
The yarn doesn’t matter as long as it’s worsted weight. I use a G hook for my aminekos.
These are SO ADORABLE!! I love them!
Thanks, Kayla!
We love our amineko that you made for Addi. I think the green one is also my favorite. The color really is great!
I’m glad Addi loves it! That’s what makes it worth making them.
They turned out great! I’m sure the kids will love them.
I gave them the cats yesterday and all three of them did love them. I was very happy at how excited they were. It made making them worth it!
Henry named his Blue. Sheridan named hers Fluffy. And, Jack named his Luke Icewalker, but Ali calls him Luke Iceblocker.
Uh, they are so loved here. Henry keeps asking for “Blue” and Sheridan gets really mad that hers is having a little break. Jack puts his in a special place each night so he can find it in the morning. They LOVE them (and I do, too!). THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I’m so happy that they love them! It just makes me smile so much!
Oh my goodness! I NEED to make these for my daughter and my mom (of all the people, I know, lol). They both would love them. So cute! Fantastic job!
Thank you! I love making them.
