I had to have my dad, who had already finished grad school, go over every paper I wrote with me. I would fight it too because they nitpicked over the smallest details that I just didn't get. Help with proof reading always goes a long way on those papers. Especially research papers, I hated those with a passion. I'd take creative writing over those any day. Good Luck!
