I’ll be completely honest. I was mostly excited to see Jack the Giant Slayer because Ewan McGregor is in it. Fortunately, not only did I end up enjoying watching Ewan McGregor on the big screen, I also really enjoyed the movie.

Yes, the movie is a bit cheesy. And, yes, the story is lacking in some respects with a few minor plot holes. But, overall, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was exciting, fun, and funny. And, I really enjoyed the special effects (other than the animation at the very beginning).

I loved all the actors. I thought they played their parts well, especially Ewan McGregor. But, honestly, he can do no wrong in my eyes. I especially loved his hair and I wonder how much product they had to use to get it to stay that way! I recognized Bill Nighy’s voice immediately as I thought Davey Jones had returned from his locker. And, with Ian McShane as part of the cast, it almost seemed like a Pirates reunion. Going in, I didn’t realize Stanley Tucci was in the movie and was pleasantly surprised to see him. He’s definitely one of my favorite actors and I enjoy almost every role he’s played!

I’d definitely recommend seeing the movie on the big screen so you can get the full effect of the special effects. But, if you don’t see it on the big screen, it’s not a big deal. It’ll probably be just as good or just as fun on DVD or Blu-ray.

  1. This sounds like a silly movie, but it’s one of those that I would go in expecting it to be silly. And that makes a big difference. I like Nicholas Hoult.

    • That is very true. I was expecting it to be a bit silly and cheesy going in, so that’s why it didn’t bother me. Had I thought it would be a serious movie, then I wouldn’t have liked it. I like Nicholas Hoult too. Now, I just need to see Warm Bodies.

  2. I’m very eager to see this one! Glad to Ewan rocked, doesn’t he always? ;-) Sigh!

  3. It looks so fun! I hope to fit it in soon!

  4. I might go see this one now. The trailer didn’t really make it look like that good of a movie, but if you thought it was funny then I’m going to go. :)
