Movie Review: Hotel Transylvania

MPW-76287Title: Hotel Transylvania
MPAA Rating: PG
Notable Cast: Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of his best friends–Frankenstein and his wife, Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Werewolf family, and more–to celebrate his beloved daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem, but everything could change for the overprotective dad when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis. Summary from Official Movie Site

I absolutely adored Hotel Transylvania. It was fun and clever. And, I adored hearing the voices of some of my favorite comedians. From the opening sequence to the final credits, I was hooked. I loved the journey, the little nuances (including making fun of Twilight), and all the laughs.

I love that I wasn’t disappointed in this film at all. Everything held up to my expectations, even though I didn’t really know what I expected. The animation was great and easy to watch, the music was fun to listen to, and the characters were written and acted well.

I wouldn’t have a hard time recommending this to parents with young kids either. The movie is light and funny. There are only a few scary sequences, but they’re not too scary that kids won’t enjoy the movie. In fact, my two great-nieces, ages 5 and 3, loved it and kept asking to watch it again.
