When I was younger, I always wanted to learn how to crochet.  Everyone I came in contact with that knew how couldn’t or didn’t want to teach me because I’m left-handed.  I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I’d never learn until I met my friend Angie.  While we were both working in the Support department at Dentrix, she was able to teach me how to crochet because she’s talented enough to use her left hand, albeit slowly. ;) Since then, I’ve crocheted afghans for family and friends and I even made Christmas stockings for Corey and me.

About a year after Angie taught me how to crochet, one of my ex-neighbors taught me how to knit.  I still haven’t finished the first project I started when I learned.  I like to keep my first projects for sentimental reasons and because I crochet much faster than I knit, I keep putting my knitting project aside, so I can crochet afghans as gifts for people.  I enjoy knitting almost more than I enjoy crocheting.  I just haven’t explored it as much and I hope to get better and faster as I practice more.

I’ve done a few rag quilts too.  I like rag quilts because I think they’re unique and I can make them without them looking too “country.”  They’re also very quick and easy to do.  The most time consuming part is snipping the seam allowance so the raw edges fray during washing.

My mom sews, paints, and quilts.  While I was growing up, she tried to teach me, but I never took hold of it.  I didn’t really enjoy it all that much and she’s kind of a perfectionist, so I never felt like I measured up to her standards.  I didn’t think I’d ever do anything crafty until I started to crochet and knit.  Because crocheting and knitting is something I can call my own, I’m really proud of the work I do.  Each time I finish a project, I take a picture of it and write down how long it took me to complete.  I also keep track of the pattern and yarn I used.

I love the brain slugs, I’m going to need one of those. And A beanie. Definitely a beanie. Oh! And one of Addison’s afghan’s. That oughta do it. Where do I send the check? This is the order page, right? :) You are such a creative and talented person Jenni! I miss you.

Alayna – Thanks! The brain slugs are my favorite (and several other people’s) too. I’ll make you something some time with I have the time.
