Fun with My Nieces

Last Friday, Corey and I went up to my niece Aymee’s place so her sister, my other niece Carlee, could do our hair early Saturday morning.  This happened to coincide with the release of the New Moon DVD.  I wasn’t planning on going to a release party because the movies don’t interest me that much.  However, Aymee’s friend asked if Aymee wanted to go so Aymee asked me if I wanted to go with them.  I told her I was fine either way; I just wanted to spend time with her.  At the last minute, Aymee’s friend decided not to go because she was too tired to stay up that late.  (She’s pregnant.)  Because Aymee and I were still up and already planning to go, we still went.

We found out that the Walmart we were going to was the same Walmart three of the actors–Michael Welch (Mike Newton), Justin Chon (Eric Yorkie), and Christian Serratos (Angela Webber)–were coming to for the release.  When we got to Walmart about 30 minutes before midnight, the parking lot was completely full! We should’ve known better with the craziness of the fans.  The autograph line was so long we would’ve been there until at least 4:00 am so we decided just to get in line for the DVD.

When the actors came out, I decided to see if I could get close enough to get a few pictures of them.  Thanks to the awesome zoom on my new camera, I was able to get a pretty good shot of each of them.

The next morning, Carlee came over to do our hair.  When the doorbell rang, I heard Aubree, one of Aymee and Dave’s daughters, yell, “Aunt Cha!” and then run down the stairs to get the door.  It was really funny and cute.  (Aubree’s almost three.  If you ask her when her birthday is, she says in one breath, “I’ll-be-three-May-8th-I’m-going-to-the-beach-for-my-birthday-to-swim-in-the-water.”  It’s so funny because she gets so excited about it!)

The last time Carlee did my hair, she cut it in a way that I could scrunch it enough to give the illusion that I have naturally curly hair.  Unfortunately, that ability didn’t last very long because my hair is very stubborn, straighter than straight, and became heavier and less willing to scrunch as it grew.  (See picture of Aymee and me above for verification.)

I asked Carlee if there was a perm that would let me have nice curls without looking like a poodle.  She told me a new perm had just come out.  It’s called the beach wave and it uses foam blocks instead of standard perming rods.  The result is a natural, very loose curl.  Aymee and I volunteered to be Carlee’s guinea pigs so she could try it out.  You may think I was brave to be a guinea pig, but I knew it wouldn’t turn out badly.  In fact, the worst case scenario was that it wouldn’t work at all.  Luckily, it did work and turned out great!  I think it’s the best perm I’ve ever had because I don’t look like I have perm at all.

Seriously, the most natural-looking perm I’ve ever seen! I’m jealous–it looks so perfect (even in person!). Great job, cousin Carlee! You’re so cute with it, Jenni!

  2. Variety says:

Oh, I SO want to do that. That’s the kind of curls I’ve been looking for for years! How much does she charge, and can you send me her name and number?

  3. Jenni Elyse says:

Ali – Thanks! :) It’s always nice to have someone affirm what you think.

Tawnya – Well, she doesn’t work at a salon anymore, so having a place to do it would be an issue. Also, she charges me differently than she charges others. But, I’ll give you her name and number (I’ll e-mail it to you) and you can call her and see if you can work something out. She’s getting married in two weeks, so she may be a little busy for the next little while, though.

I love the new Do, what a great bouncy curl. I’m so glad you made it out the the Walmart, I couldn’t get my tired but out of bed.

  5. Jenni Elyse says:

Danylle – Thanks! I really like it. Going to Walmart was fun, but it was crowded and late. I’m getting too old for this type of stuff, lol. ;)

  6. Aymee says:

We did have fun! I’m glad we went with our cute necklaces. And I love our perms. I had a fun weekend with you and Corey. We should do it again.

Aymee – Thank you for my necklace and pendants! I love them! :) I just wish I could wear them more often or longer. Corey and I’ll definitely need to come up and hang out again.

  8. Christie says:

Love the new do. Can’t wait to see it in person for our birthday dinner (is that still on?). I’m very tempted to get a perm like that too. Hmm. I probably won’t but I’ll think about it at least.

  9. Jenni Elyse says:

Christie – Thanks! I’m still planning on the birthday dinner. It’s planned for the 17th. I’ll send another e-mail to everyone, so we can start finalizing our plans. :)

  10. Ashley says:

Wow, your hair looks great! I’ve always thought it would be fun to have curly hair, but in nice, natural, loose curls. Are you still loving it a few days later?

  11. Jenni Elyse says:

Ashley – I do still love it, especially now that I know how much gel and hairspray to put in without it becoming helmet head.

  12. Jenifer says:

I love the new ‘do! Those curls are the perfect kind of curls! Glad you were able to make it to Walmart and kind of “see” some of the cast!

  13. Jenni Elyse says:

Jen – Thanks. I really like the curls and that they’re so loose.
