Friday’s Fab Five

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Do you remove the cover from your hardbacks when you read?
  2. What new series have you fallen in love with this year?
  3. What story did you love reading as a kid?
  4. If you were a character in a book, who would you be?
  5. What book have you heard raves/good reviews about but didn’t care for it yourself?

Here are my answers:

  1. I always remove the cover when I read because I want to keep them nice.
  2. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to read very much this year.  However, I really enjoyed Elantris by Brandon Sanderson so I’m sure I’ll love the Mistborn Trilogy when I get around to it.  And, even though reading The Fellowship of the Ring is frustrating me because I have too much inaccurate knowledge from the movie, I’m enjoying the story a lot.
  3. I didn’t read as a kid, but I loved to have my dad read My Father’s Dragon to me.
  4. I really want to say Bella because then I’d be with Edward and I’d be a vampire.  But, I think that’s too predictable, and I’d feel bad about being married to someone other than Corey. I think I’d choose to be Hermione or Ginny from the Harry Potter series.  Honestly, as long as I was a witch and friends with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, I’d be fine with anyone in that series.
  5. The Time Traveler’s Wife–I loved the idea and concept of the story, but I hated the language, gratuitous sex, and most importantly, the ending!

  1. Ashley says:

I’ll have a crack at it.

    1) I do remove covers from hardcover books. Otherwise, they inevitable tear and/or get stained. I must be an abusive reader!

    2) This year I have fallen head over heels for the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. They are sweet, funny, and the characters make their ways into your heart very fast.

    3) I always have loved reading. Two books I read over and over again were A Wrinkle in Time and Anne of Green Gables–just the first. I never really got into the series.

    4) I also would love to be someone from Harry Potter, because, hello! Coolest world and friends ever! I also always wanted to be Anne from AofGG. I love how she had the best imagination and gave names to the trees of her home.

    5) I’m sorry! It has to be the Twilight series. It wasn’t the worst ever, but it certainly was being raved about, and I didn’t really care for it.

  2. Jenni Elyse says:

Ashley – No need to apologize. I realize Twilight isn’t for everyone. ;) I’m glad you gave it a chance, though. Thanks for the recommendation of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. I’ll have to look those up and put them on my to read list.

  3. aymee says:

    1. Yes. For no other reason than they annoy me.
    2. Sadly I haven’t either. I’ve mostly re-read favorites this year.
    3. The Box Car Children was probably my favorite, and all those little stories you ordered from school like Zach’s Alligator….(if you know what I’m talking about…)
    4. There are a few, any one from Harry Potter (I totally agree with you Jenni) Alice, Renesme, (Twilight) Clary (The Mortal Instruments Saga) I think it would be fun to be a soul (Host) I can’t pick just one. So many people have created wonderful worlds that I would love to live in!
    5. So far The Golden Compass..although I am liking it better the further I get in the book…

  4. Jenni Elyse says:

Aymee – A lot of people don’t like The Golden Compass. I loved it. I loved it for the sole reason of the daemons. I want a daemon so badly! I thought the story was creative too. I didn’t have a problem with any of the religious aspects of it because it’s so far from our religious views that they didn’t even phase me. What are you not liking about it? I’m always curious as the reasons people don’t like it.

  5. aymee says:

I guess I’m just not totally in the world yet. I don’t even know what a daemon is. I have assumptions, but they never explain it…I am liking it better, but i wish they would explain more so I could understand and focus on the story. I kind of had the same problem with City of Bones, but it was such a fun easy read that I wanted to keep reading to catch on…I still don’t know if I want to keep reading this. But since it’s growing on me I will try. And it has nothing to do with religious things. I can totally separate it from my beliefs….

  6. Violet says:

Ooo… Hermione! Excellent choice! That was a hard question to answer because there are so many awesome characters and fictional worlds! I didn’t want to choose just one. Maybe we could chose a different character for each day of the week? ;-) I agree with you about the ending of The Time Traveler’s Wife. My Friday’s Fab Five answers are here.

  7. Jenni Elyse says:

Aymee – That makes sense. I don’t like it when books don’t explain things either, and you’re forced to wait until it the end or near the end to know things. Just think of it like reading a book like LOST.

Violet – I agree. I wanted to choose from so many worlds. But, I tend to lean towards Harry Potter and Twilight the most. I think it would be fun to be a shadowhunter, too, though.
