Eclipse

My niece Aymee invited Corey and me to see Eclipse with her.  One of her friend’s cousins rented out a theater for the occasion.  But … they rented it at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, June 29, six and a half hours before the official release of the movie.  I’d never been to an advance showing of a movie before so I jumped at the chance to go!

Aymee’s husband Dave was supposed to come with us, but he had to go to San Francisco for work so one of Aymee’s friends, Karen, joined us.  Corey kind of felt out of place at the movie, but I think he still enjoyed himself … for the most part.  He said he wanted more blood.

I enjoyed Eclipse a lot and not just because I didn’t have stay up until the crack of dawn to see it.  It was a lot of fun to sit next to Aymee.  We’d whisper things to each other, particularly making fun of a certain vampire’s hair.  I got a few elbows in the ribs from Corey, but we were surprisingly a lot quieter than a lot of the people around us or in the theater.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie.  I thought it was a good adaptation of the book and the best of the three so far.  There were some changes that I didn’t like, and I thought Jackson Rathbone’s (aka Jasper) wig was hideous!  His wig was much better in Twilight and I wish the movie makers would’ve kept that one.  I also didn’t like the way Nikki Reed looked in the flashback about how Rosalie became a vampire.  I didn’t think it suited Nikki; she just didn’t look right.  Also, the wedding ring in the movie is the ugliest ring I have ever seen in my life!  The ring approved by Stephenie Meyer for Infinite Jewelry is much prettier! I loved all the additions of the scenes alluded to in the book but that Bella doesn’t witness (e.g. the Cullens and wolves chasing Victoria while Bella and Edward were in Jacksonville, the goings on of the newborns in Seattle, and the view into the fight with the Cullens instead of just the one with Edward and Victoria).  I loved Xavier Samuel, who played Riley.  After the movie, I told Aymee that he would’ve been a better Edward. I also loved Charlie.  Billy Burke is fantastic as Charlie!  Watching the Great Dog Snog was just as painful on the screen as it was/is when I read it in the book.  Not only because I hate the idea of Bella with Jacob, but because I know what’s coming in the fourth book.

I was extremely happy that my favorite scenes made it in the movie and remained pretty much untouched.  It kind of makes up for the abomination of the meadow scene in the Twilight movie.  I loved the scene with the kiss, not the Great Dog Snog, but the kiss.  I’m sure you know the one I mean. I also love the tent scene.  The movie portrayed it very well.  The talk between Charlie and Bella about sex was more hilarious on the screen than it was in my imagination when I read the book.  I loved it!  My favorite scene by far is when Bella punches Jacob in the face and breaks (sprains in the movie) her hand.  It was so funny, and it was portrayed well.

I’m looking forward to seeing the movie again and picking up the little things I missed the first time around.  I also want to re-read the books again, and I’m considering putting off all the books on my to read list just to bump the Twilight Saga up to the number one spot.

I of course Liked the Great Dog Snog but I wish they had left in Bella’s accompanying vision. That vision is what makes TGDS make sense. It’s the whole purpose for the scene without it….well it’s just kissing. And while I am a fan of kissing……not so much

  2. Jenni Elyse says:

I agree. The accompanying vision is what makes TGDS make sense, and I do wish they would’ve kept that in. For one, I wouldn’t have to look at Bella and Jacob kiss. ;) Although, I like the idea of one kissing Taylor more than Rob (not me, of course, since I’m too old).

  3. Ashley says:

Yay, I’m glad you liked it and had fun with your friends! I have no idea what the Great Dog Snog is referring to…I guess it has been too long since I read the book, or I didn’t pay enough attention.

  4. Jenni Elyse says:

Ashley – It was a lot of fun! :) The Great Dog Snog is the loving title that many of the fan on the Twilight Lexicon gave to the kiss between Jacob and Bella at the end of Eclipse, the kiss that made her realize that she loved Jacob too.

  5. Amber says:

I totally agree; that scene was still as painful to read. It was the best of the adaptations so far– (hopefully that’s a good sign for BD 1 & 2).

However, I thought Jasper looked fine. I especially loved his Southern accent. ;)

  6. Jenni Elyse says:

Amber – I thought Jasper was “fine;” I just hated his wig. Oh well. You can’t win them all. The accent was nice as well.

  7. I am so excited to see the movie, but I think I will wait another month or so, so the theaters are so jam packed!

  8. Jenni Elyse says:

Jenifer – The theater we went to had assigned seating. It is the best invention ever! There’s no need to arrive early and no need to brave the huge crowds.

We did have fun. I totally agree with Ouisa. I actually thought that while I was watching, but kind of forgot afterward. It definitely was needed. And I also loved Jasper’s accent. It just adds to the appeal! Although the nasty hair took away appeal too….oh well. I’m glad Corey was there even though he was the “odd one out” I always love spending time with him too.

  10. Jenni Elyse says:

Aymee – Yes, the accent definitely adds to the appeal. It’s like listening to Matthew McConaughey and watching his sizzling body. I’m glad that Jackson Rathbone is your age because I don’t feel so dirty for liking him. ;)

  11. aymee says:

I like that he’s my age too! :)

  12. Violet says:

Glad you had fun at Eclipse! How fun to see an advance showing in the middle of the day. :)

  13. Jenni Elyse says:

    Aymee – :D

Violet – Yeah, it was nice not to have to stay up until midnight and later. Although, I probably wouldn’t have gone to a midnight showing anyway because I’m too old for that sort of thing.

  14. Amy says:

I’m glad you had fun. I haven’t had a chance to go see it yet. If you decide to go again, let me know. I’d be happy to go with you. I’ve heard it’s the best one so far.

  15. Jenni Elyse says:

Amy – That would be a lot of fun. Maybe Ali, you, and I can go together.

  16. Amy says:

    Sounds great!

  17. Jenni Elyse says:

Amy – Cool! I’ll talk to Ali and see if she wants to go. If not, then I’ll give you a call and just you and I can go.
