A Possible Change

I really like my blog the way it is, and I guess this is all that matters.  However, I thought I’d get my readers’ opinion on the content of my blog.  I’ve read a few things here and there that say that blogs do better (i.e. more readership) when it focuses on one topic rather than a smörgåsbord of topics.  I’ve been thinking about creating a separate blog for my book reviews and leaving this blog for updates on my doings with Corey, family, friends, school, hobbies (other than reading), etc.  What do you think?  Do you think I should create a separate blog for book reviews?  Or, do you like the one-stop shopping experience?

Another Change

It’s that time again.  Time to redo my blog theme, I mean.  I was going to do a “fall” theme, but then I decided to do something for Halloween instead.  Halloween’s one of my favorite holidays and I love vintage decorations, so this theme works perfectly!  Of course, having a Halloween-themed blog means I’ll be changing my blog’s look again in another month, but that’s okay because I think this is a lot of fun! :D

Speaking of Halloween, how do you celebrate?  Do you feel like you have to celebrate Halloween because of your kids?  Or, do you like the holiday all on your own?  What are your plans for dressing up this year?  I’m toying between a few ideas.  I’ve always wanted to make a costume out of cardboard because you can get very creative and it’s very cost-effective.  At this point, it kind of depends on what my team does at work.  Whatever I decide, I’ll be sure to post a picture.

Here are some of my costumes from previous years.  At work, I won scariest costume the year I dressed up as a vampire.  I used to love my vampire costume because I have fangs that cap onto my canines.  But, even though vampire lore has been the same for hundreds of years, my view of vampires has changed because of one little book. … Okay, it’s really four books. Now, vampires don’t have fangs; they just have really sharp teeth. Maybe, I can reuse my fangs for a cat costume or something. ;)

I’ve realized a couple of things as I look at these pictures.  One, I used to be a big dork when I took pictures because I always stuck my tongue out. I’m not sure why I did. Two, I need to get a new scanner.  My current scanner’s too old to work with my Mac, so I had to take a picture of my picture of me as Bubbles and it didn’t turn out too well. :? Oh well, at least you get the idea. ;)

Another Year

Today marks the second birthday of my blog.  I can’t believe another year has gone by.  And, I can’t believe I’ve had enough things to say to keep my blog going for a full two years. ;)

I absolutely love to blog.  It’s so much fun to write about things I enjoy doing or things that pique my interest.  It’s such a departure from the boring world of technical writing.  I don’t think there’s any aspect of blogging that I don’t like nor do I think I’ll ever get tired of it.

I’m also amazed at how many people read my blog.  I don’t think I’m that interesting, but I guess I am if I’m getting so many readers.  I’m amazed at how many people have stuck with me throughout the entire two years and how many newcomers I have too.

I want to thank those of you that comment often.  It means a lot to me.  It’s true I write my blog for me, but it’s always nice to receive feedback and encouragement from family and friends.  It helps me know that what I’m writing about is of interest to someone else. And, to be frank, I feel loved because I know you’re taking time out of your busy schedule to be an active part of my life and letting me know how you feel rather than just passively reading about the things going on in my life.  Thank you! :D

I thought it might be interesting to do a poll about my blog content.  I want to know what you’re interested in reading about.

A New Business

As of about an hour ago, Corey and I are the proud owners of a frozen yogurt establishment called Froyo.  We’ve been in the process of buying Froyo for about a month and a half now and we’re glad it’s finally ours.

Froyo is located at 2255 N. University Parkway in Provo and is open Monday through Thursday from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 pm to 11:oo pm.  The menu currently includes frozen yogurt (with add-ins), Dreyer’s® ice cream, and hot chocolate.  In the near future, we plan to move Froyo to a better location and add sorbet (dairy free) and blenders (similar to fruit smoothies) to our menu.

Corey has been working on a change in corporate identity for Froyo because it needs to be updated.  For example, here’s the old logo and the new logo.

And, one of the things we’ve been contemplating along with the identity change is a name change.  Corey and I have been trying to decide if changing the name would positively or negatively affect sales to our target market.  So, I’ve decided to create a poll and see what the results are from my blog followers. ;)

Anyway, thanks for participating in the poll.  Corey and I are really excited about Froyo and we hope you come by some time to say hi and get a healthy, yummy treat! :D

PS–If you are for the name change and you have a name idea, please leave it in the comments.

St. Paddy’s Day Presents?

Four Leaf CloverUntil this year, I had never heard of St. Patrick’s Day presents.  On Monday, my co-worker Lauren started talking about her in-law’s St. Patrick’s Day traditions, which include some presents.  And, I noticed a few blogs today talking about leprechauns visiting and leaving behind presents.  Where have I been, especially since I have Irish ancestry?  I so want in on this holiday tradition! :D

Also, I have a St. Patrick’s Day fact for you just in case you didn’t know.  Yesterday, I put my Facebook status as, “Jennifer Elyse Blaser says, ‘Happy St. Paddy’s Day!’”  I showed this to my co-worker Erin because someone had commented about my correct use of punctuation, and since I’m a tech writer, I was kind of proud of myself and wanted to show it off. Erin proceeded to ask, “Isn’t it St. Patty’s Day with Ts?”

I was taken aback, not because I thought she was being rude, but because I had never heard of St. Patrick’s Day being shortened to St. Patty’s Day.  I told her I had always seen it with Ds.  Erin and a couple of other co-workers thought Erin’s reasoning was well-founded because Patty is short for Patrick.  I’ll admit I thought her reasoning was well-founded too; I just always thought the reason for the Ds was because it was more masculine.  I decided to check it out.  St. Patrick’s Day is shortened to St. Paddy’s Day because Paddy is actually short for Padraig (pronounced Pah drig), which is the Irish Gaelic form of Patrick.
