Linguistics Survey

My friend Tyler forwarded me an email with a survey being conducted by a student for their senior thesis project in linguistics. I thought I’d share it on my blog to help this student out and because I thought it was kind of fun to take.

It’s a very short questionnaire. First, it gathers some demographic information so it can choose which questions to ask you. Second, it will ask you five short survey questions about linguistics. The survey takes only 3-4 minutes.

Survey requirements

You can only take it once.
You must be 18 years or older. (Please don’t take it if you’re not at least 18. I don’t want her data to be skewed.)
You don’t need a background in linguistics or grammar.
You should understand English, but you don’t need to be a native English speaker.

If you decide to take the survey, come back and let me know what you thought of it when you’re done. Did you want to over analyze like I did? What did you think about some of the words chosen?

The Force Revisited

I was looking up “The Force” Volkswagen commercial to watch it yet again and I came across this one with deleted scenes and bloopers. I thought it was cute and it makes me appreciate the finished product even more. :)

I first saw this commercial last Wednesday. One of my Twitter friends posted something about it. The minute I saw it, I fell in love. Not only is it about Volkswagen, it also incorporates two of my favorite things: Star Wars and John Williams. With that being said, the main reason I love this commercial is because of my friends’ little boy Jack.

Jack is six years old and he’s obsessed with Star Wars. I mean he really loves Star Wars! If he could be a Jedi, it would be the best thing in the world to him. In fact, he’s expressed interest in becoming a youngling. Anyway, when Jack was first introduced to Star Wars, Ali would tell me about all the Star Wars related things Jack did and one of the more amusing ones had to do with the Force. Jack tried and tried to get the Force to work for him. When he couldn’t get it, he said things like, “I can’t get the Force to work. I need to practice more.” :lol: No matter how much Ali or Tyler tried to convince him that the Force isn’t real, he just couldn’t/wouldn’t believe it.

When I saw this commercial, it reminded me of him. And, as many of you know, Jack is one of my most favorite little boys in the whole world so anything that reminds me of him is awesome in my book. Enjoy! :D

PS–This is the same commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, or so I’ve been told since I didn’t actually watch the Super Bowl.

The Perils of Christmas Trees

This is the reason Corey and I have only put up a Christmas tree once the entire time we’ve been married. I’m sure now that our cats are grown, they wouldn’t be as naughty. But, you never know, especially with Dax, the perpetual kitten. I guess we’ll find out next year. ;)

Kimiko Gifts

My niece Aymee is a very talented crafter. Her daughters are always so cute decked out in the hair things and clothes embellishments she makes. When her oldest daughter was born, she started crafting as something to do while she was at home all day. She makes beautiful hair ribbons, clips, and headbands as well as miscellaneous things like pictures, cards, jewelry, and magnets.

I love her style of crafts because they’re not in the country style, which is my main experience with crafts. Aymee’s crafts are very vintage looking (she actually made all the decorations for my niece Carlee’s shower and reception, including the bouquet and other flowers) and look as though they could be sold in a Pottery Barn catalog.

In the past, she has sold her stuff at open houses and booths at holiday fairs. However, just recently, she opened an Etsy store called Kimiko Gifts. The store is small right now, but she has been slowly adding merchandise to sell. I wanted to mention her store to help get her name out there. Her stuff is super cute and super inexpensive. You should check it out and let others know about her cute stuff, too!

PS–The things in her store right now are mostly for children, but she does make things for adults too.
