2009 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year!I was going to post a recap of 2008 like I did for 2007 last year.  But, I figure my old posts are a good enough recap of the year. I decided to weigh in on my resolutions for last year and talk about my resolutions for this year.

Last year, I wanted to:

  • Improve my relationship with Corey.
  • Read The Book of Mormon again.
  • Read at least 50 books!
  • Go back to school.

Now that 2008 has come to a close, I’ve realized that I didn’t do a very good job at meeting my resolutions, except for one.  My relationship with Corey has definitely improved and that’s definitely the most important resolution I wanted to accomplish.  I know our relationship can continue to improve, but honestly, I think that’s something we’ll continue to work on for our entire life.

As far as reading The Book of Mormon again, I failed miserably at this challenge.  I got to 2 Nephi and just kind of quit reading.  I’m not really sure what happened other than I just had a hard time getting myself to read the scriptures last year.

I didn’t quite reach 50 books, but I did read 28 books.  This is the most I’ve ever read during a year so I’m still very proud of my accomplishment.  I’ve read a lot of good books last year.  Some of my favorites include: Twilight Saga, The Host, Dragon Prince trilogy, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Rebecca.

I wasn’t able to start school again so I didn’t accomplish that goal.

As for 2009, I have similar goals from 2008 that I want to accomplish.  In fact, the first three goals are exactly the same!

  • I want to continue to improve my relationship with Corey.
  • I want to read The Book of Mormon.
  • I want to go back to school.
  • I want to read at least 30 books.
  • I want to lose 100 pounds.

I guess we’ll see what happens in another 362 days.

2007 in Review

I thought I’d post a review of 2007 since it’s the beginning of a new year. (This would be a lot easier if I kept a journal! Too bad I didn’t start my blog until June.)

  • I had my 29th birthday in April, Corey had his 32nd birthday in November, and we celebrated our 9th anniversary in March.
  • Around January, Corey helped co-found Mangia, an Internet-based company. In September, he decided to leave the company to pursue other avenues, although he still owns 5% of the company.
  • Corey had his gall bladder removed in August.
  • Corey and I switched from a student ward to a family ward in November.
  • Cloe, one of our kitties, moved in with my parents in September and she seems to be doing pretty well.
  • There were two additions to my family: one great-niece and one niece. Aubree, my great-niece, was born in May and Addison, my niece, was born in July.
  • The seventh and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released in July, ending a significant period in my life.
  • I crocheted two afghans, one for Sheridan (my friends’ daughter) and one for Addison. Around November, I taught my co-worker Becky how to crochet and she’s already made nine scarves!
  • In June, I started my blog and I have a total of 104 posts, including this one.
  • In June, I read Twilight and New Moon for the first time. The Twilight series has officially surpassed my obsession with the Harry Potter series. In August, the third book in the series, Eclipse, was released.
  • I joined two online forums centered around the Twilight series and The Host, another book written by Stephenie Meyer (to be released in May 2008). I’ve made many friends on the forums I belong to and I’ve met 16 of the people in person through various get-togethers we’ve had.
  • In July, Erin, Becky, Gentry–a few of my co-workers–and I started a book club and we’ve read six books. We’re currently in the process of finishing The Chronicles of Narnia series for January’s books.
  • I’ve become really good friends with Erin and Becky.
  • I read 22 different books, 13 of them for the first time. I joined Shelfari, an online book club, to help keep track of all the books I’ve read and want to read.

I’m sure a lot more has happened in the last year, but can’t think of anything else. I was going to post this on New Year’s Eve, but I was having way too much fun. Becky threw a New Year’s Eve party. We played the Wii, Guitar Hero, Pit, and Air Hockey. There was lots of yummy food and we watched Michael Jackson videos, which was a lot of fun because we used our MST3K (aka Mystery Science 3000) prowess while we watched them.

I’ve never been into new year resolutions because most of the time people don’t stick to them, me included. But, I’ve decided I want to set a few goals for 2008. In 2008:

  • I want to improve my relationship with Corey.
  • I want to read The Book of Mormon again.
  • I want to read at least 50 books!
  • I want to go back to school.
