Corey wanted to throw me a surprise birthday party on Saturday, but not everyone he had invited could make it. So, he and my niece Aymee threw a not-so-surprise party for me and my nephew-in-law Dave last Saturday instead. (Dave’s birthday was Monday.) It wasn’t a surprise because I heard them talking on the phone and I knew we’d be hanging out already anyway because my other niece Carlee did my hair that day.
The party turned out to be a ton of fun! We hung out with three of my nieces and their families. Aymee decorated her beautiful home full of purple decorations. (She said she knew the party was for her husband too, but she did this more for me since she had other plans for Dave.) She also built me a marble contraption for me to play with from Sophie and Aubree’s toy because she knew I love that sort of thing.

Corey was in charge of the food and birthday cake. We were going to eat take out from PF Chang’s because then I could watch my calories better and it was just kind of simple to do with everyone. The only problem is that while Corey was on his way to pick up the food, the restaurant called to tell him that they use oyster sauce in almost all their dishes now. Unfortunately, that made it impossible for us to eat there because of Corey’s allergies to shellfish and iodine. Instead, we ended up ordering a butt load of hamburgers and fries from Five Guys.
It was delicious, even if it wasn’t good for my waist line.
The cake was an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. It had chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. I love ice cream cakes, so I decided to forgo my aversion to dairy for the night. Such a sacrifice on my part!
After dinner and cake, we played a couple of games of Scategories. It’s one of my favorites. We had a good time. And, we were even told a secret by my niece Kelsey that I’m excited about! Let’s just say, I’ll be welcoming three new great-nieces and/or -nephews this year instead of only two.

These are pictures taken by me the day after Thanksgiving. This is Kelsey & Guy, my niece and nephew-in-law, coming out of the temple on their wedding day.
My mother-in-law was kind enough to give me two tickets to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Hale Center Theater in West Valley. Corey didn’t want to go so I asked my niece Aymee to accompany me.
I’ve had the chance to see Joseph once before at the University of Utah. Joseph was played by David Osmond, Donnie Osmond’s nephew. It was a fantastic production and I really enjoyed it. However, the experience at the Hale Center Theater was unbelievable. The actors/singers/dancers were fantastic and the play was adapted well to the theater’s circular stage. I also loved the props, especially the giant camel. (Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a picture of the camel.)

Bradley Lever played Joseph for the showing that Aymee and I went to. He has an amazing voice and did a fantastic job, which I was grateful for. As long as Joseph is fantastic, then I think the play will always turn out well. He also wasn’t too bad to look at either. I really enjoyed watching him play the part … for more reasons than one.
It was so much fun to see this play live again, and to see it at the Hale Center Theater on the circular stage. It was an experience I’ll never forget. This production will probably remain my favorite performance for years to come. I’m so glad I was able to share this experience with Aymee. We had a lot of fun together and I’d love to do it again with her hands down.

Bret and Jamie, my brother- and sister-in-law, had their third daughter last night. London Blaser was born Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 11:20 pm. She weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and was 20 in. long.
Congratulations, Bret and Jamie!
