Book Blogger Hop

This week’s Book Blogger Hop question is: What is your favorite book set in a different country than the one you live in?

Harry Potter British Signature Edition (image from amazon.co.uk)The only series/set I own with an international cover is the Harry Potter series. I got them for Christmas 2011. I wanted to read them in all their British glory so my husband bought them for me. I loved every minute of reading them, except when “soccer” and “sweater” appeared in later books. Way to ruin my British experience! Ha ha. Just kidding.

Updated: I totally read the question wrong. I figured this out after hopping to a few others’ posts. My favorite setting in a different country is Victorian England and the Tudors era as well.

What about you?

This week’s Follow Friday question is: What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

There are a few that I haven’t like that others have: The Devil Wears Prada, Le Petit Prince, and A Handmaid’s Tale.

  • The Devil Wears Prada was too long and too boring. I liked the movie a whole lot better than I liked the book.
  • I read Le Petit Prince in French for school. I think that’s why I didn’t like it. I want to read it again in English and for fun and see if that changes my perception of it.
  • And, I didn’t like the lack of information regarding the how or why the world went the way it did in A Handmaid’s Tale.

What about you?

Comments

  1. Hopping through. I did not like The Handmaid’s Tale. I thought the issues the book raised were interesting, but it’s the type of book I find disturbing not enjoyable.

  2. I did Follow Friday but didn’t realize there was a meme to attach it to, with a question and everything. Oh, well. Kind of disappointing.

My answer to the question though is Written on the Body, by Jeanette Winterson. Several people I know list it among their 1000 books to read before you die and it made me want to be sick to my stomach. I thought it was awful!

  3. Good Old Harry Potter. :)

    Happy Hopping!!

  4. Haha, I never knew they made a book out of The Devil Wears Prada ;) I saw the movie and really liked that! I’ll make sure to stir away from the book itself ;)

Thanks for sharing and I am now also following you :)

  5. I love The Little Prince so much! But I never had to read it for school… being forced to read a book tends to put a little damper on my enthusiasm :)

I’m an old follower, here’s my FF post for this week.

    • I really want to read it again to see if I like it better. I know so many people love it. I think I just didn’t understand it well enough since I read it in French.

  6. Jenna @LittleBirdReads says:

Haha… well I think it is two-fold and that is a good answer too!!! I am totally jealous that you own the UK version, by the way… I have it on my wishlist.

    • Ha! Yeah, I’m glad I could entertain anyway. :D It took a while to get it. I’ve wanted it for a while. It was only about $85, not too bad for 7 paperbacks and shipping from England.

  7. I really liked The Devil Wears Prada and I read all of Lauren Weisberger’s books, which I also loved :)
