Bike Riding and Weight Loss
It’s time for another weight loss update. I lost 3.8 pounds this week! I’ve now lost 24.3 pounds total and I’m only a little over a pound away from being under 200 pounds!
I’ve been doing really well with my eating and exercising. I still get cravings for bread and sweets, but I’ve been dealing with them by only having a little of something rather than going overboard like I would’ve in the past. I also try to eat a healthy alternative “sweet” instead of the junk I really want. However, if a healthy alternative just won’t cut it, I’ve turned to the 100-calorie packs by Nabisco and Keebler. They satisfy my sweet or junk-food tooth just enough without undoing my entire day/week. I highly recommend them!
I’ve become a bike riding monster! I try to ride my bike everyday and everywhere I can. In fact, last Wednesday, I rode my bike home from work. It was 11 miles, the longest I’ve ever ridden in my life. I didn’t think I’d make it, but I did. I just kept making little goals each step (or pedal) of the way. It ended up only taking me an hour and 15 minutes to get home. Now, Corey wants me to ride my bike home at least once a week. I think it’s a good idea; I just need to prepare myself mentally to do it.
On Saturday, I started riding my bike on part of the Provo River Parkway, a paved trail that starts at Utah Lake and ends at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon. The trail’s really convenient for me because you can get on it about .5 miles from where Corey and I live. It makes riding my bike to the library a little bit easier too. I’ve only explored part of the trail because I start riding my bike in the evenings when it has cooled off a bit and I don’t want to get stuck that far from home when the sun goes down. I’ll have to start at Vivian Park and make my way home on a weekend or something so I can ride the whole trail.
Corey also got a personal trainer. He needs to start building up the muscle in his femur because it has atrophied since his surgery in December. He was going to do physical therapy, but our out-of-pocket cost is more than it is with the personal trainer. And, I get to work with the personal trainer too!
The hardest thing for me with exercising, especially resistance exercising, is knowing what to do. Now, I don’t have to worry about that anymore. Corey’s sessions started today and I start on Thursday after work. I’m so excited, but a little scared too.

Jenni I’m so very proud of you. You are making such great choices that I for one can totally sympathize with how hard they are. I gave in today and ate chips. Gosh I forgot how GOOD chips are. And oh wow I ate too many.
JENNIE! I am so proud of you! That is hard work! And 24 lbs already, you are amazing! I am sorry that I haven’t checked your blog recently, life is crazy with a baby, but I love every minute of it! I need to follow your example, I still have some baby weight to loose.
I hope life is treating you well and keep up the good work! YOU ARE AMAZING!
Jenni- you are amazing. i had a personal trainer after my second baby and i absolutely loved it. (except the waking up early to meet at the gym part). i am excited for you. let me know how it goes.
i can’t believe you rode your bike home from work. i think the traffic would scare me to death. the river trails sounds more like it to me.
Well done Jenni! I’m glad you’re accomplishing your goals – its a great feeling. I used to do the Provo River trail when we lived in our old duplex. I’d usually start on Geneva Road where you live, and end up in that park on 5th North. Sounds like we’re doing the same stretch of trail.
Nice work on the 11 mile bike ride home. I think that’s a great idea to do that at least once a week. I also love those 100 cal snack treats. My problem is that my kids find them and eat them before I get a chance. Maybe I’ll have to start hiding them! LOL! You are doing so great on this weight loss program. Nice work (because it is a lot of work).
Wow! I’m impressed with your mad biking skills! I tried riding my bike to and from work at the library last summer and nearly died of exhaustion every day that I did it! I can’t even imagine going 11 miles! You are amazing woman!
Wow! 11 miles! I would have died. Pass along tips from the trainer. I need all the help I can get.
So proud of you! Love ya!
You get five gold stars!!!
Way to go!!!
That’s awesome! Congrats. I just got a personal trainer too! I’m going to blog about soon so you’ll get more details….
