Some Stephenie Meyer fans may know that Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward’s perspective) was leaked about a week ago. I noticed that a link had been posted, without permission, by a user on the Twilight Lexicon with Midnight Sun‘s location. I promptly let the moderators know so they could take it down and not have the Lex inadvertently perpetuate the leak.
Stephenie Meyer posted a statement on her website about the illegal Internet copy that was distributed. Because of this horrid situation, she has decided to put Midnight Sun on hold indefinitely, which means she may or may not finish it. She has also released the partially written manuscript to the public, so that her fans “don’t have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest.”
I can’t claim complete innocence in this situation. When I heard there was a leak, I was just as excited as many other fans and wanted to read the manuscript. I let my selfish desire overpower my integrity. I read the story and experienced the “high” with a few friends.
Even though my high was great for a moment, I would’ve never released Meyer’s work to the public! It wasn’t mine to share or put on the Internet! How dare someone do that! I’m so angry and depressed at the same time. However, I’m not angry at Meyer; the only feelings I have for her are feelings of compassion, sorrow, and regret.
I think it took a lot of courage on her part to make the decision she did. I feel so sorry that she was hurt from all this! And, I regret that I can’t claim complete innocence in this situation.
I know it’s a long shot that she’ll ever see my blog, but I’m going to post this anyway:
Stephenie, I’m so sorry that I can’t claim complete innocence from not having read Midnight Sun when you didn’t want me to. I’m sorry you were hurt from this ordeal, and I understand why you’ve made the decision you’ve made.
I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for your fans. I want to thank you for the joy you’ve brought into my life, especially the wonderful friends I’ve made because Twilight brought us together. My only hope is that you’ll be okay emotionally and know that your fans love and support you, and that you’ll continue to write and share your wonderful characters and stories with us.

How sad! I’m about half way through what she’s posted and it is SO GOOD. I honestly think it is one of my favorite things she’s done if not my favorite. I hope she changes her mind.
Aimee
I swear that I had read an expert on her website about a month ago. (It was while you were in Forks, WA, actually). Is this post that she has on her website not the same one?
She only had the first chapter on her website. The leak was the first 12 chapters.
