The LDS Church held a press conference to announce President Hinckley’s successor today. I know most of the members are sad to say goodbye to President Hinckley and most are happy that he’s with his beloved wife. So, it’s easy to welcome, with open arms and hearts, the new Prophet and his counselors.
President Thomas S. Monson is the new president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through his teachings and testimony, the members of the Church will be able to receive guidance and assurance of God’s will.
I’m very excited for President Monson to be the new Prophet. I’ve always had a great love for him. I remember talks/stories from him when he was a counselor for President Benson. I always loved listening to him. When I was younger, I had a hard time concentrating during General Conference, but whenever President Monson would speak, I was always able to listen.
In September 2006, President Monson spoke at our regional conference at the Marriott Center. President Monson’s talk was so inspiring. He didn’t read from a prepared talk; he spoke from the Spirit. He shared very personal stories and his wit reminded me of President Hinckley’s. It was so neat to witness that side of him. I can’t wait to sustain him as the new Prophet in April.

President Monson chose President Henry B. Eyring as his first counselor and Elder (now President) Dieter F. Uchtdorf as his second counselor. I fully support these two men and I know they’ll serve the Lord with all their might, minds, and souls as counselors in the First Presidency.
