I know I’m crazy to do this, especially with all the other things I have going on. But, I really want to participate in a reading challenge next year and it was either the 2011 Debut Author Challenge or the 2011 Back to the Classics Challenge. After some thought, I decided I’d be more apt to read 12 debut novels in the genres that I love than I would be to read eight classics. Although, in all reality, I want to do both because I want to become more well-read in the classics. But, I just don’t have the time right now and I’ll get some exposure to the classics next year with the classes I’m taking. (Also, I’ve made a goal to read at least two classics a year. I still have a month and a week to finish two classics.)
Anyway, the 2011 Debut Author Challenge (DAC) is hosted by Kristi from The Story Siren. The objective of the DAC is to read at least 12 debut novels from young adult or middle grade authors. You don’t have to be a blogger to join, but you do have to post your reviews in a public place, like Shelfari and Goodreads. The challenge runs from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
I’ve decided to only read the minimum for this challenge. If I can read more, then it will be icing on the cake. I’ve chosen to read the following books for this challenge:
- Across the Universe by Beth Revis (1/11/11)
- Warped by Maurissa Guibord (1/11/11)
- The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney (2/8/11)
- Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton (2/15/11)
- The Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecker (3/1/11)
- Entwined by Heather Dixon (3/29/11)
- Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton (4/26/11)
- Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari (6/1/11)
- Eyes in the Mirror by Julia Mayer (8/1/11)
- Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout (9/15/11)
- The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton (9/27/11)
- With a Name Like Love by Tess Hilmo (9/27/11)

What a fun idea! I’m going to go look into that. I always love discovering the new fun books out there!
OOO! And I wanted to say how AWESOME it was to see Tess’ name on there too. I’m excited about that one!
I know! I specifically looked for her name to put on my list.
I heard about it a couple of months ago when I read a few blogs that were participating in the one for this year. I decided it might be fun (although crazy) to try.
Saw that you won the TLS nail polish from Bree Despain. Totally jealous!
I was so excited! I never thought I’d win in a million years.
Hi Jenni-Elyse! Thanks so much for adding THE FAERIE RING to your DAC list! I’m hoping to have a cover here in the next few weeks that I can share!
The premise sounds really interesting and I love fantasy. I’m excited to read it and I’m very excited for you too. I look forward to seeing your cover!
Fun! I participated in the 2010 Debut Author Challenge & it turned out to be easier than I anticipated. I definitely want to sign up for next year’s challenge because there are so many debut novels I’m looking forward to in 2011.
Yay! We can do it together! There are a lot of books debuting next year that look fun and interesting. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do more than 12, but I’m going to at least shoot for the minimum.
