This week’s question is: What are your new years book blogging resolutions?

I don’t really have any book blogging resolutions.  However, I do have a reading resolution.  This year, I wanted to read two classics.  Unfortunately, I was only able to read one–A Christmas Carol.  Next year, I plan to read Pride and Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird along with all the other books I plan to read.

Enquiring Minds Want to Know

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Did you get what you wanted for Christmas?
  2. Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?
  3. How will you spend New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day this year?

Here are my responses:

  1. Yes. I wanted a Kindle and Corey and the kitties got me one.  I love it.  Corey also bought me a K’Nex roller coaster kit, something I’ve always wanted.  I had fun putting it together on Christmas and the cats have had fun with it ever since.
  2. Yes. I’ve made resolutions since the beginning of 2008.  I did really well meeting my resolutions in 2009.  I had a harder time in 2008 and this year.  But, I still plan to make resolutions for next year.  I’ll post them on the 1st.
  3. Corey and I may spend it with our niece and her family.  We may also just spend it by ourselves and possibly go to bed early since we haven’t been for the last week.

Launch Party Fun

I’ve been fortunate to attend two launch parties in the last month.  At the beginning of the month, I attended the launch party for Matched, a book by Ally Condie.  Yesterday, I attended the launch party for The Lost Saint, the second book in The Dark Divine trilogy by Bree Despain.

To say that I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of these books would be a gross understatement.  Fortunately, I was able to read Matched before it was released so going to the launch party was just so I could say hi to and get my book signed by Ally.

At the launch party, Ally revealed the purpose of the color scheme of the covers for the books.  Matched‘s cover is green because it focuses on the green pill.  (If you haven’t read the book, then this won’t make any sense to you.)  Crossed‘s cover, although not finalized, will be blue because the book focuses on the blue pill.  (This little bit of information kind of prepares the reader for what to expect in the next book.)  The third book’s cover will be red because it will focus on the red pill.  Knowing that the third book is going to focus on the red pill does little to calm my nerves about how this series is going to play out.  I’m excited for what is expected to be a roller coaster of emotion.

Yesterday, I went to the launch party for The Lost Saint.  First, I’m so excited to finally have my hands on a copy of The Lost Saint.  Now, I just need to reread The Dark Divine so I can read The Lost Saint.  Bree talked about how writing sequels are hard.  Before The Lost Saint, she had never written a sequel; she’d always written stand-alone stories.  There were times when she didn’t think she could deliver, but through the help of her critique group and author friends, she was able to stand up to the pressure she was feeling.

I was able to attend this launch party with a few of my friends.  It was fun to hang out with them.  I also met a few people that I had been corresponding with via Twitter, blogs, comments, etc.  One of the people I met was fellow book blogger Heather from Fire and Ice.  She’s also a jewelry maker and photographer.  In fact, she took the first photo below of some of my friends and me at the signing.

I feel really lucky to live in Utah where there are so many authors.  Other than living in New York or California, I don’t think many other states, or countries for that matter, have as many chances as Utahns do to interact with authors.  Not only is there a plethora of authors who live in Utah, the local bookstores and libraries do all they can to bring in authors from all around.  It’s so much fun to be a part of the literary world here!

Wordless Wednesday

This picture was taken by me on Christmas of this year! As you can see from the picture, one of the first things I learned how to do was browse to my blog on my Kindle. I've also already downloaded 30+ free books! It's so much fun!

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books in 2010

I didn’t get the chance to read as many books as I wanted to this year.  But, I still read quite a few. I’m excited to try to read more next year, even with school.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to read a lot.

  1. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: Mockingjay was my favorite book that I read in 2010. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was the perfect ending to a great trilogy. I loved that not everything was happily ever after, but that some things still ended happily.
  2. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare: I loved meeting new characters in the shadowhunting world and I can’t wait to see how their story progresses.
  3. Matched by Ally Condie: I absolutely loved Matched. It was wonderfully written and the story was very captivating.  I can’t wait to read the rest of Cassia’s story.
  4. Linger by Maggie Stiefvater: Reading Linger made me even more excited for the release of Forever, which I didn’t think was possible.
  5. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: Speak is the most powerful and influential book I’ve ever read, minus scripture. It was so well written and told the story of a rape victim in a beautiful, haunting manner.
  6. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson: Elantris was a wonderful fantasy, which I loved immensely. I loved being introduced to Brandon Sanderson’s writing. I can’t wait to read more of his stories.
  7. Night by Elie Wiesel: Even though Night is a sad story, it’s a great story.  I enjoyed it more than I did the diary of Anne Frank because it felt more logical and Wiesel exposes the reader to the concentration camp aspect of the Holocaust, the place just before Anne’s diary ends.
  8. The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien: I’m happy that I finally finished reading The Hobbit. I ended up enjoying it too, which was a wonderful surprise.
  9. The Clockwork Three by Matthew Kirby: I really enjoyed The Clockwork Three. I’m glad I had the chance to read it. I’m excited to see what else Matthew Kirby writes.
  10. The Lost Saint by Bree Despain: I haven’t read this book yet because it’s just being released today.  But, I know I’ll finish it before the year is out and I know I’ll love it.  I’m sure once I read it, it will be moved up the list as well.
